2004 RS6 Avant -- Value required, can anybody help.

I got 14 for mine... ok, had a small dink in the rear wing and needed a polish but that was it........... had no interest at 18, 17 16 or 15, i know some here think it was in tatty condition, but those who knew, knew it was actually a lot better than i made out. It wanted for nothing mechanically and apart from the big turbo car here was probably one of the highest spec cars available at the time (and one of the fastest), yet it still only made 14. Its worth what someone will pay. Good luck mate.

yeah, bit of a quandrie really, i would be very suprised if it made 15k given the work required, but its good to be honest. i like to sleep at night!. i suppose somewhere between 12.5k and 13.5k and take the hit.

The fact it's newer, has lower miles than my s4 (i know it shouldn't matter but i'm wiered) and has sunroof is a big plus for me.

As per Mooch's comment, "its worth what someone will pay". Sometimes your lucky when selling and you get a buying out of the blue. Example; I bought a B6 2005 S4 Avant from Stockport Audi back in 2007 for £23,500. Was mint condition with 30k on the clock. 12 months later I decided to opt'd back into the company car scheme to free up some monthly cash. I chanced my arm with an Auto Trader ad asking for £22,500. Nobody bit on the hook till the very last day of the 2 week ad. After a bit of expected haggling I sold her for £21,750! Result!! Some you win some you lose. I'd stick her on as many ads as possible.......the bigger the net the more chance of catching someone. Bit of a David Brent moment there! 

Book Price £11.8K - what does that mean?
Looking at the history of prices on sites such as piston heads and autotrader. Depreciation is currently running at about £350 to £400 per month in the last year, even for the good ones, which is a bit of a shocker!!!
Dealers have not yet cracked much below £17,500 for 2003/2004 with 50-65K on the clock and are holding the offer prices up. But they are only taking them on at about £13k to £14K if you're lucky enough but it's got to be a real good one!
The problem for all of us is that when and if they hit a so called book price of £10K and below - who is going to buy a £14K supercar that might need £5,000 spent on it i.e discs,pads,cambelt, service in the first 12 months of ownership
In three more years we will not be able to purchase any kind of warranty unless the warranty companies can make a profit.
But less of the gloomy predictions who ever bought an RS6 to make money??

As far as i can see as a prospective buyer, there's 2 major things that lower the price, 1st is the gearbox, now the car may not require one at the minute, but from a buyers point of view, not many have made it to 80k without one (looking at the adds)
The 2nd one is the cambelts, all 2003 cars are heading for there 2nd belt change within the next year.
Other things that i believe are driving down the prices is some of these cars have fallen in to the hands of the back street garage/ no maintenance brigade, ie people who run them in to the ground because thay are having trouble filling it with fuel let alone spending thousands every year on general servicing and up keep.
One way to see this is with parts like tyres and brake pads, if the car has cheap pads on and cheap tyres, then it's likely the owner is just after driving the car rather than preserving it's oe quality. That's not too say that aftermarket parts are poor, but £20 pads and £100 tyres just aren't good enough for this kind of car.
All current Rs6 owners can hope for, is that the rs6 takes a similar long term value as with the b5 rs4.

I've had two 90+k and the gearbox hasnt exploded ... but on my old 50k car it went bang !
As i said, that's from looking at the ads.
I've looked at loads of cars for sale and some have had new boxes at as little as 30k, some have had them at 60k, some not at all.
But to a prospective buyer, your better finding one that's had a new box than taking a chance that you've get a good one.

This year had started out well for second hand car prices, pretty stable but in the last few months it's not been so good. Plenty of posts on the forum talk about those that buy the 6 because its a "cheap performance car" along comes the first big bill, it's paid... Gulp!!!
Then a realisation and despite reading the various stickys and buyers guide, cambelt needs doing, can't leave the discs any longer,new set of tyres etc...... and it's on the market before the next bill arrives.
You can offer any car at any price you like but it is always the buyer that really sets the price and right now it's a buyers market.
But eventually when those type of owners move on to the next "supercar in the £15K-£20K sector" The RS6 just might become like the b5 rs4 and the other quattro in my garage a Ur Quattro
with respect to the leg end that is the Mooch, his car was never gonna reach £18k! it needed one person who was hell bent on all the mods done ...Fingers01 wrote:

I could ask £25k for my car, then sell it the next week for £15k, doesnt mean its lost £10k!
They are not losing £4k a year thats for sure
