Impreza P1

Post by DuncS3 » Wed Jan 21, 2004 6:01 pm

The darkside beckons once more. I have a bee in my bonnet about swapping my S3 for a P1 Impreza (RS4 just more money than I want to spend on one car for me right now).

Obviously my S3 is a class motor, I just want a bit more of a driving edge, hence the Impreza thoughts. P1 is a relative lightweight car (1280 kgs) and is very quick. I am going to test drive a P1 when I get back to the UK next week, and make my decision based on that. I really liked the STI 8 PPP I test drove last year - it pisses on my S3 full stop, handling, noise etc - but its one ugly mother - P1 looks better IMO, although the missus reckons it looks like an Escort with a 'fin' on the back!

Anyone on here had a P1 before? If so any comments.

Its all these track days that have made me want more from a car. At the end of the day the S3 is just a fast Golf. I know the S3 is more 'classy' and I like my S3 a lot, but its not all just about image and interior (TT + haircut anyone?)

Perhaps I should keep the S3 and go for a big turbo in a years time - that would give me the performance I suppose

a good friend of mine has a P1, they are fast cars, but a bit hard on the ride, they are best on the track, he uses a mini cooper in the day's P1 is for weekend fun. Did look at one b4 I got my S4, but needed the 4 doors.

P1 every time. Awesome piece of kit which you can quite easily use on a daily basis. Will blow most cars away on the road or on the track.

P1 ride is a bit harsh on rough surfaces, and they're a bit noisy to be bombing down the motorway in in terms of engine and road noise. Also not the most efficient car in the world - even cruising at 85-90mph (on a private test track of course ) you're looking at perhaps 30mpg instant. All in all you're probably unlikely to average over about 25mpg at the best of times. Good noise though, very farty. And they are very swift.

Good luck mate,

In terms of harsh ride, you should try my S3 on Koni shocks and H&R springs...plus I only get 25 mpg combined in my S3 (and I dont pay for fuel so I dont care about mpg too much). I will test drive and hopefully that will make my mind up either way.

Morning Scotty!

Mate I thought of you as i wrote that, but it doesn't include you. You are not what I would call a polisher, but a lot of TT owners are.

(Plus I thought it was safe to say it on this forum!)

Cheers

Yes EVO 8 is always tempting, except for Mitsi change the models about every 6 months (theres a new MR version of the 8 coming now apparently). Anyway, thought about it for a week and the S3 is staying (for now). I have spent so much money and time modifying it, it doesnt make sense to trade it just yet.

Christ if you guys reckon the P1 is a non-compromising car, wait until you drive the Evo8. Ridiculously poor ride quality, <beep> interior and a very average sounding engine. But as far as performance cars go, it seriously does the business.

Don't Evo's also need servicing every 5000 miles and do about 75miles on a tank of fuel? It would spend more time in the garage than on the road

Cheers

Ben

PS Dunc, get an RS4

Nah, get a Skyline and mod it at Middlehursts (most of them are tootling around with well in excess fo 400BHP without too much stress on the engine)and nothing will even come close to you, even the hallowed RS4.

hello duncs3, i might be a bit biased here owning a P1, but i'd think you'd like one we are having a meet at the weekend where there should be 30-35 P1's ranging from standard to 'abit' modified. your welcome to come over and have a look at the owners club. P1WOC
hope to see you on the site or at the meet(details on the events page)
