I can see where the guy is coming from on this, On mine the silver finish on both the seector button and the shifter surround is scratcched - and this is probably the only real sign of age.

However this black surround is a bit iffy. (Sorry about that(but better than a badly scratched one.))

Does anyone know how difficult it is to change the button and the surround for new / newer silver??

I'd rather have it scratched than that peice of tat!? A price of silver, black or carbon 3M film would resolve the issue if you're that bothered?

Halfords special, goes nice with crappy stick on phone / cup holders and other Barry accessories they supply!

This is also an interesting article on this topic:

I didn't want to go this route because it seemed like a lot of work to me. But for the handymans between us, it may actually be something like a fun project. And the end-result (if done properly at least) is an as-new gear selector surround!

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. I would be keen to replace though....any know if Audi still stock alloy replacements?

Not sure about this mod. It would help cover up scratched standard chrome/aluminium. Think it would probably look better 'in the flesh'.

On a different note, my selector button is on the other side of my gear stick. Is yours left hand drive or did the buttons change side at some point during the production run?

TP for my bunghole and all that... It was posted on RS6.com so I assume it's LHD due to the thumb button position. It'd be VERY hard to operate selector lock button if it was on the opposite side to your thumb!
No matter where you go, there you are.
