Insurance cost (Sep 2010)

Post by el_ringo » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:26 pm

Hi All,

I have got to get the beast insured again next week and the insurance co want 800 odd quid or so. This seems a little high since the last thread with prices etc.

I am 30, 6yr NCB, 1 fault claim, no points, 10Kmi a year

Those of you doing the same, what are you paying and who with?

R

My renewal is due at the end of the month. I'm with admiral on their multicar policy and until I made a claim in dec 08 they had been pretty good. Last year I paid £1k with zero no claims discount, no convictions 28 years old and 8 years experience living in the bournemouth postal area. I was paying £700 before my claim, and my renewal for this year is £1100 despite now having 1 years discount. Explain that.

Eddie that multicar gimmick is a bunch of bologna. I got two separate quotes for an rs6 and an a4 both with admiral and it was cheaper than when I asked them to do it on a muticar policy!! Not the first time I've tried that. Think I might give swift cover a shout before taking this admiral policy out...

Swift Cover always seem to be quite a bit cheaper than all the others, but in a way that makes me think hmm.... and leave well alone. Mine's with Admiral and it's about £800 albeit with £80 or so of breakdown cover in it.

Just be careful with Swift cover and what they actually cover if your car gets broken into. My TT had the window smashed and sat nav, ipod and sunglasses taken and they didn't want to know.
They offer good prices, but make sure you have a quick read of the small print. Same goes for most insurance companies though to be fair! ;)
I'm with Admiral on their multicar. 35 years old, 12 years protected NCB, live in Lincoln and pay about £300 per year. I limited my mileage to just 5k though.

Mine's just over 800 quid also (35 years old and 8 years NCD). But I presume the good ol' postcode plays quite a big part in it.. being just north of London must make it slightly dearer.

Come renewal time, I don't care if it takes me all day long and a massive migraine from 'phone strain' - I WILL get it down lower (I've been very complacent the past couple of years and just let it renew with Admiral). Not any bloody more!!

On my list to try will be Swiftcover (my Uncle went with these and they were very cheap, but he said the premium went through the roof on the 2nd year), Sky insurance (sponsor of SRS) and Chris Knott (also SRS sponsor) and then go from there (unless one of those 3 gives me a stupidly low quote)

Similar sort of quotes for me and similar demographic. I changed my insurance a couple of weeks ago when I bought my RS6. Changing from a 3litre V6 *Peugeot* coupe (is that swearing on here) to the RS6 added an extra £235 to my premium, taking me up to around £850.

31yrs, kept off-road overnight, 10+yrs protected NCB, Bristol postcode, fully comp for myself and my wife as named driver. That was through Admiral, but I will shop around when it's renewal time.

One thought I've just had - should I declare that my RS6 is 'non-standard' as it has H&Rs fitted?

How ridiculous! Swift cover wouldnt insure a) an RS6 without a tracker, b) wouldnt insure my friend, and c) wouldnt insure my WIFE!

I enquired about a tracker as there is one fitted on my RS6, but just not activated.

If I activated my tracker, it would reduce my premium by a massive £15 per year!!!!

Chatting to the Admiral on the phone, apparently having a tracker sometimes increases the premium!!!

Reason was that if the owner thinks the car needs a tracker, then it must be more likely to be stolen, and therefore it causes the insurers to raise the risk level associated with the vehicle - meaning premiums go up! Go figure!
