With my two kids growing up rapidly I am thinking for upgrading my ICE by installing in car entertainment for them in the back. I have looked at portable DVD players but like the idea of headrest inserted slave screens attached to my RNS-E unit and their films loaded on a Phatnoise. Question is, how easy / difficult is it to do?
I realise I would need video in motion unlock key and that buying portable units is cheaper, but it would be handy to be able to control them from the front and have the DTV tuner option playing to the screens as well.
Does anyone know of companies that can do all this. Had a look at craigyb's website and vw cruise and there is no mention of slave screen work so is this because it is too much hassle? Would also probably do SDS as well at the same time.
Advice appreciated as always.

RE: RNS-E, Phatnoise and Slave Screens
Slave screens on the RNS-E is a complete no-no - there's no provision for AV out and as far as anyone can tell there's no composite video even inside the box (the LCD is screen has an LVDS connection).
The best option is to connect the slave screens directly to the AV outputs of a DVD player (does a Phatbox have AV outputs?) which is controlled by the RNS-E. That way they can watch only the DVD (which you control), and your passenger can watch anything you like (after having the VIM mod done).

Phatnoise? no video output - audio only.
RNS-E - no video output at all.
Generally a rear seat entertainment system is just that, 2 rear screens, DVD player and 2 sets of headphones. Now if you car is equipped with TV it is possible to wire the back and front together so that the TV tuner can be seen on front and rear, also that the rear DVD player can appear on the front screen as well, if the remote for the DVD is at the front of the car you can control what is played.
That is how I have done my Q7, 2x Alpine rear heard rest screens, wireless head sets and a 2TB mediaplayer with nearly 300 DVD quality movies on board. Linked to the onboard TV so front and rear can enjoy the system and the sound comes out of the stereo and not just headphones.
