Anyone had a trouble-free RS6 experience?!
I cant remember the last time i posted anything negetive here about my car, i absolutly love it to bits. To be honest ive had a fairly trouble free deal over the past 4 years, asside from the usual wear and tear expenses. If you are considering an RS6 be aware its a car that you dont want to get involved with if you have issues with throwing cash down the crapper. The little things that go wrong are pricey to repair, and the big things are just rediculous.
Even though mine has been a dream to own, i still head out on the road with the gut wrenching feeling that the next corner, gear change or foot plant will leave me high and dry. It really is an astounding car to own, but it owns you as much as you own it. Another thing to note is that they arent selling well at the moment so if you do buy one then its gonna need 100% commitment until the market returns to good form as you'll be stuck with it for a good while if you change your mind after a few months.
If you do take the plunge, and seeing as its at 39k miles make sure you get a belt change thrown in, including thermostat and pump. Get that done and at least you'll have one less worry for a while.

They are great cars but as has been said already they will go wrong so a warranty is essential. If you're buying it from Motor Mall then negotiate for year two cover to be thrown in for free. I know they are hungry at the moment ;D
Also, there's no Unit20 in Jersey so your options for cost effective AND knowledgeable service is limited. Steven at Oakhurst is excellent but he will rarely do warranty work. There are about 8 or so on the island but be warned, you'll be doing double the speed limit in the blink of an eye. France on the other hand...oh my...completely makes it worthwhile.

Welky, Sean,
Thanks for the local knowledge! It is the Motor Mall car, and it is ex-Mansell. Service history is impeccable and the spec is monstrous (love the solar sunroof!) It's just had the 40k cambelt service, and it's had new DRC actuators. No history of gearbox probs or turbo/intercooler issues as far as I know, but I'm hoping to see the full stack of invoices tomorrow.
I reckon it has non-standard front brake pads - they squeal slightly when cold and the stopping power is awesome. I guess you'd expect a racing driver to upgrade brakes. The discs have no lip on them and the tyres are almost new.
So far I've negotiated in 2 years of warranty with recovery, so that's making the decision easier. I believe I'm cracking... tomorrow I might be taking the plunge.
RS6 ownership sounds like a fun club to be joining. Much less stuffy than Porsche-world.
We're off to France for two weeks from Friday, so it's a perfect chance for the car to prove itself to me!
Deal or no deal? Will update tomorrow...
Matt

Yep, I say do it too. Just budget £4k per year on wear (outside warranty) and £90 per week on fuel.
Sounds like you've done a lot of work reading up and the car should be clean if Jacksons gave it the all clear. See you on the roads, and don't forget to flash/wave at at other RS6s!

JerseyMatt ...
I've owned my Avant since 2003 and it's covered 43,000 'good value' miles. I've had to change the DRC but I recouped all the cost from Audi UK. It's had a new alternator ... and that's it. Admittedly I have 2 or 3 other super cars in which to share the mileage / driving.
I love driving the RS6 every time ... it's got great deliverable power, very sure footed & being de badged shocks everyone .. a real 'Q' car with stealth.
I think you'll love the car .. I prefer it to the V10 RS6 that I bought and then sold in 2009. Your only problem might be having a competent RS6 technician looking after it ...

Its a buyer's market for those cars, so keep that in mind in your negociations.
I bought mine 3 months ago off ebay, FSH with 54K miles. The previous owner sold it because he was not using it, and I've put in 3.5K miles in 3months. Sure, things can go wrong, but it is a high performance car so you have to be sympathetic to it like not canning it from cold or letting it cool down before switching off.
2 friends of mine have theirs for more than 6 years, they both say that they will never sell it.
It is a great car, whether to take trash to the recycling centre or travelling to Paris in comfort and at speed...

I have just read all the threads and cant help feel how people that own RS6's run them down. I had one for 6 years from new, did 100,000 miles and thats when the DRC failed. Audi replaced it under warranty. Shocks and coilovers are really good for 60,000 miles. Yes the service bills hurt sometimes, but you have to pay for performance, try looking at Ferrari or Maserati service bills. I had the same smile on my face the day I sold as I did the first day I drove it, I still see the car, as a friend brought it from me and absolutely loves it. I now driver the V10 RS6 I love it but miss my old car, and that sound every monrning, better than the dawn chorus.
