£21 k Budget
£21 k Budget
Hi gents. I understand I'm posting this in a bias area, but try and be open minded, Right I have a small budget of £21k for a B7 RS4 which as you know gonna leave me with a high miliage car 80k+ miles or should I let go and accept a low miliage B5 RS4 with less problems.I'm intending to let the wife use the car (school runs...)8k miles a year to try and save on the expence of running 2 vehicles.what's your opinion.

RE: £21 k Budget
It's worth the expense of running two cars! LOL
Get yourself a great B5 RS4 and a crappy school run bus.

RE: £21 k Budget
You need a little bit of helpfull info,as im not sure how you come to the conclusion a low mileage b5 will give less problems? Ive owned a b5 for 4+ years and was low mileage, its maintenance bills stacked up way more than my b7 is (granted b7 fairly new still) 21k will see you in ex salvage or way over 100k cars only im afraid

Maybe Iam being nieve with my 21k budget, I honestly understand I'm not going to be spoilt for choice but I have seen some for around that budget http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 364684798/ example
this is under £20k with 75k miles.last week one sold
for 19k on piston heads with lower miliage.maybe these cars have problems.!! But as you can understand with 21k the B7 is almost in reach, I don't wanna buy a B5 and regret not holding out for the B7, I've just sold a 911(964) and I'm getting a bit excited about the RS4s. Thanks

Either car is fantastic in its own right, the example you show is the only half decent thing ive seen around that money, the non buckets isnt the favoured spec but even allowing for that and the miles it seems very cheap, but as with any high perfomance car if its due brakes tyres etc etc then it can explain the price, cheapest we have heard of is a 158k car @ £20k yes 158k,and a poor spec 108k avant @£21k in a closed trade auction, makes the example shown seem too cheap if you know what i mean, unfortunatley kicking around at entry level can and usually is dissapointing if your an enthusiast who wants a nice example.I dont think alot more would see you into high mileage decent spec car otherwise id look into the b5,got to say having owned both the b7 as an overall car is way better and much more capable
I have never owned a Audi RS4 before so enthusiast iam not but sound soppy but id like to be, ive just sold the 911 covered 1000 miles a year so i think i got what it takes in regards to £ per mile use. I originally only had eyes for the B5 but as my need for a low miliage B5 grew the budget started to touch 21k and this is where im left. contacted Nick Johnson but all the cars are 60k miles plus. seems a lot of dosh for £20,000.
It's a trade off really. You could pick up a B5 for less than your budget but maintenance costs on it will be high or pick up a B7 over budget but running costs be lower. In the end both will cost around the same money within a couple of thousand; just depends on how much you have to outlay initially.
How about a C5 RS6 in the interim until B7 prices come down a little more?

You would get acclimatised to the fuel consumption! Alternative is a B6 S4. Not as dynamic as a B7 RS4 but bombproof reliability, low mileage examples for anything arounf £10K and with a full s/s exhaust system and remap it has a heap more torque than a B7 RS4 and only marginally less bhp.
Plenty money left over, S4 won't drop too much more in value and something to use until the RS4 is in reach.

A nice B5 with some cash for maintenance left over
OR
A shitty B7?
I'd go B5 (which I still have a soft spot for due to the head spin of their power delivery), run it for a bit, watch B7 prices soften then sell B5 for not much less than you paid and get a B7, that's what I did (well with 2 B5s!)
