RNS-D to RNS-E

Post by paulyd65 » Tue Jun 15, 2010 4:39 pm

Dear All,

I have a 03 Plate B6 4 with the RNS-D satnav/stereo. My question is does the RNS-E system fit my motor and what is the benefit (if any). The RNS-E looks much better but not sure of any other plus points of upgrading.

Cheers

Paul.

I imgaine that a new connector plug/lead is needed plus recoding using VAG-COM. I went from the front loading CD changer to RNS-E

Rnse also allows the alpine iPod interface through the video in, so you have full control of your iPod with the headunit

It fits straight if you pick the model for B7. But as it has been said you need an harness to fit the connectors, you need also an adapter for the antenna and the keys to extract the device.
In addition, you have to bring CAN+ signal which can be done by bypassing the TMC box (in the boot on the left side) or by picking the signal from the dashboard.
The VAG-COM is required to set the configuration and depending on the version you may need to change the CD charger (there are several models, some are compatible with RNS-E, others aren't). I did it but as you will get also 2 SD slots I don't think that you will actually use it afterwards
If you are based in Europe you can buy everything from Kufatec.
You can find all the details there

I swapped 5 years ago and I never regret.

I hope that will help.

I have a 2004 B6 with a Symphony 6 slot front loader CD and am thinking of putting in an RNS-E, will it work....?

I don't remember if the model you described is a Symphony I or a Symphony II, however the answer is more or less the same. As soon as you have a "double-DIN" radio unit, you can quite easily replace it by a RNS-E. For sure the amount of work changes a bit (for example you have to define where to put the GPS antenna). But it should not be too difficult. If you have a "single DIN" unit stereo, things are more complex taking into account that you also have to modify the central console. The link I gave previously can also help for such update
