Motor change under warranty
Well said that manMikeD wrote: Who was here first is of no importance at all, its just a comment to provoke a response, so best if we all do what we are here for, talk about OUR thoughts and OUR personal experiences with Audi cars and the people who keep them on the road!!
By the way HE is called Mike!!!!!!

you posted this before and claimed it was from Audi
it had some crap about a production change in the engine during the RS4 production run and that the RS5 was a different engine...
I sent it to Audi...they denied that is was issued by them
[quote="Sims"]Some of you will recall this was posted on another website -rs6.com
"Carbon build-up"
Dear Friends,
as promised, i would like to say a word or two concerning „Carbon build-up“:

that is very bad for the engine...P_G wrote:So effectively the car standing still in neutral and revving it to the limiter for a period of time?MikeD wrote:I have heard it mentioned as a way to remove the carbon deposits in a motor. From what I have heard it involves high revs, long time, 0Km =high heat, not what I want for my motor.
Would love to have the details of what it is, may be someone from Audi can chime in on this.
high revs under 0 load induce all kind of stresses in the components...
Audi said they inspected the valves and they weren't abnormal?
quote:
At which time my country’s Audi goes, "wait, wait we need to check as well and see if we are going to pay 100% or if we only pay a %" so they then sent their man over, he looked inside the motor and then made his report of cl8 consuming oil, when asked if the valve stem’s were clean his answer was, "Yes", but as he only took out the spark plugs to use his scope to inspect the condition of the motor and not the intake manifolds I was very impressed by the fact that he was able to see the valve stem from there, when challenged he went a little red
so are you saying they are lying?
with a borescope and a skilled operator the inlet side of the valve can be seen, as long as it's open...and it appears only 1 cylinder (no. eight) is damaged
that would lead me to believe it's NOT deposits becasue all should be affected equally, correct?
I've forwarded this thread to Audi, I'll be curious as to their response...
[quote="MikeD"]Sorry but the day job is first!
Ok to repeat, as the inlet was NEVER opened so the deposits are an unknown and will remain that way until the lump gets back to Audi for a post mortem.
Oil was ALWAYS supplied and changed by Audi, so if the oil, weight or quality was wrong then its down to them.
The car has NEVER used oil and never had any smoke let alone oil smoke.
I would love to hear from Audi as well in writing, that way we can all have a point of reference, again I love the marquee and will stay with them, but there are times when we have to hold our hands up and accept that we may have got something wrong. What makes the difference is what you do after you admit there may be a problem, that’s what separates the real deal from the also ran!
If you contest that carbon build up is not an issue, please explain the “Italian tuneâ€

Wynn's claim that there product is used by all Mistsubishi dealers on GDI vehicles.Sims wrote:Do they work?PetrolDave wrote:
I've heard of some GDI/FSI cleaner chemicals that you can squirt into the inlet manifold.
I've tried their fuel additive once, found it no different to using any other injector cleaner but more expensive.
I've also tried their inlet cleaner aerosol once, but didn't notice any difference.
Trust me ArthurPE, having seen the scope I would be amazed if it could see the rear of the valve stem. It had a max of 90º deflection, so from the plug to the valve stem that would need at least 180º it’s a big ask.
As I said before, the only thing that matters is that Audi are doing the right thing, the bore is damaged within warranty time, so they are standing up to be counted, what more could you ask for.
You keep saying that you have sent things to Audi for their side, if it was as a member of the public it would have gone to the "After sales" side who are also tasked with looking after Audi´s good name, if it was an internal request you may have got a more detailed reply from the people who used to have oil under their nails but now sit at a very powerful computer to help make the next generation of motor to power our next purchase!
If Audi answer you in writing please post the reply for all to read, to date I have never seen anything in writing from a manufacturer that could be used in any way to damage or cast doubt on anything they produce, its common sense not to do that.

So let me get this right, if only 1 cylinder is damaged, it cannot be deposits?ArthurPE wrote:

What if it is all cylinders, as in the other case?

Maybe only the deposit on that 1 stem broke loose and fell in through the open valve?
I can’t rewind time so I will go with what Audi say. It’s their motor and as I did not pay for the new unit they also own the old one. If they give us permission to open the intake manifold I will be there to see firsthand. As a man of my word, if we open it here at the Shop I will take photos and no matter what they show I will post them. Fair?
