RS4 List Price?
RS4 List Price?
Picking up on Conti's point about the price of the RS4 I think it is entirely possible that the car's list price will be between £50,000 and £60,000 after one or two other option boxes are ticked (eg sat Nav, etc).
If it weighs in at 1400kgs then it is possible that Audi are positioning it to compete with the M3CSL (even though the CSL is a limited edition)which would mean listing it nearer to the £60,000 mark. The other factor is the cost of achieving the (rumoured) 1400kg (aluminium body, carbonfibre etc).
My view is a list price of £50,000 with a target of £55,000 with extras.
Anyone else have a view?

£42,000-£44,000 Anymore and I think its too expensive for what it is.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Be nice to think that existing owners can do a straight swap then
Current RS4 retailed at £46,500 back in 2000.
Most (well mine anyway) were purchased at the just under £50,000 mark, some (Thorneys for example) were considerably more.
The short answer to the question is it isnt worth a thing till we see the spec, and the vehicle will always be worth that bit extra for exclusivity.
Edited to say I have copied this across from the letter to Audi thread when I saw Joshie had started a new thread!

Re: RS4 List Price?
Personally i think Quattro GmbH will go the RS6 route and have SAT nav as standard etc.
1400kg is a pretty light weight, i dont think this is a realistic figure imho.
The new RS4 will be the 3rd/4th production car. Quattro GmbH has got along way to go in company terms, there cars can only get better if they aim them at a good market segment and dont get too greedy.
The old RS4 was £46,500 which for the limited numbers was good... but remember the car had the alloy wheel saga which didnt help its rep.
The new RS4 should be a maxium 3-5k more than the previous model. around 50k mark with good spec.
I think Audi will also make this a bigger production run like the RS6 meaning it wont be as exlusive as the outgoing model.
At the end of the day they make cars to make money... why limit the production to 500-600 when the can easily double it and make more money.... from a business point of view i think they`ll sway for big volume for big profits!
The new RS4 will have to be real special to fight the likes of the german competitors as its a really competitive market segment now.
Lets hope the RS4 is all that we want it to be....
Roll on 2005!

, Riz!
The new RS4 will get even more expensive if there is the new DSG in it. Looking at the weight again, I say it's Audi's only option to bring the Recaro Sport seats (the ones JR has) and not the big, heavy ones!
Cheers RS4

Re: RS4 List Price?
surely they will have to perform miracles to get an unladen weight of 1400kgs. My S3 weighs 1460kg without me in it!
Also, if the car retails at circa £60k then wouldn't this be RS6 territory or have they stopped making them now?
I hope you enjoy the car - whatever it appears as being.
ps I'd bet Audi AG look at this forum just to see how amusing the speculation is.

M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.
Re: RS4 List Price?
well lets hope they accomedate the prospective RS4 owner`s..... remember they dont only want to keep the past RS owners but also gain more new customers........ i feel they have to take there time and do the market research correctly, and road test the proto-types on uk roads too ps I'd bet Audi AG look at this forum just to see how amusing the speculation is.

Re: RS4 List Price?
What was the previous percentage cost of the RS4 over the S4?
As a wild guess, which is all anyone can do at the moment, I'd expect the RS4 to be a similar percentage over the new S4.

Re: RS4 List Price?
I think it was about 20% (£46500 v £39,000) but since the new S4 is cheaper then applying the same percentage suggests that the new RS4 will be cheaper! I guess it all depends on the spec. What was the previous percentage cost of the RS4 over the S4?

As far at the RS4 possibly being more expensive than the RS6 then this is entirely conceivable - loot at the M3CSL versus the (albit outgoung)M5.

Joshie - the B5 S4 was £36,500 for the saloon
Paul
Re: RS4 List Price?
Thanks Paul - was is £37500 for the B5 S4 Avant?
If so redoing the maths (based on the Avant) = 24%
Applied to the B6 S4 Avant £37000 (?) suggests that the B6 RS4 would be only marginally cheaper £46,000.
Best wait and see, eh?

Re: RS4 List Price?
I think they will certainly aim at higher volumes, particularly since developing a beast like we all want, especially if it's going to weigh 1400kgs is all going to be expensive. The more they sell, the bigger the profits, ie the more they can afford to spend on making it pretty darn good.
I would have thought Audi AG snoop round various sites related to the RS4 etc., or at least Audi UK do and report back on their findings. But you never know, by July I could be working for Audi in the design department, in which case I'll see what I can find out/convince them on! As yet it looks like Porsche are more interested in employing me though Never thought I'd be annoyed to be in that situation!

Re: RS4 List Price?
IIRC The £36,500 for the B5 S4 was discounted at the end of the run. When the B6 S4 was announced I checked, and I'm sure that Audi had made it about £1-2K less than the B5 S4 (I think they have done that partly because the car market is a bit more depressed and partly because of the publicity about UK prices being higher than the rest of Europe).
However the main issue about the S4 is that the B6 has a higher base spec than the B5 did, so in real terms the B6 S4 is several grand cheaper.
I think that you could only project this price strategy to the B6 RS4 if Audi were just going to make it a tuned version of the S4. But it sounds as if they are not. In that case I think the comparison with the M3 CSL is more accurate - the market for the car will dictate its price.
In regards to the spec, you just have to look at the CSL. Does it come with Sat Nav as standard? For that matter has it got aircon?
