Sat nav is lost
Hi there, got RNS E head unit but the location is way off from where the car is.
What's the problem and how do I cure it?

RE: Sat nav is lost
You can set the location manually in the menus.
However, if you do this and it gets lost again, you 'll need a new antenna / base, grrr £££.

RE: Sat nav is lost
I see some up for sale on ebay at £5.00. Will these work instead of the genuine audi one?

I had the same problem with a Golf & this had a GPS viewer option which showed no sats. In the end I left stationary for about an hour with ignition switched on & it found itself again & was OK after that.
If you are not getting any sats & doesn't cure itself then is probably the antenna. You can easily use an internal "puck" antenna from ebay just make sure the fittings are correct for your Sat Nav - I'd pull the unit first & check just not disconnected (+ the fittings) then order. The internal ones will work fine you can even just stick outside the car to test then if works the steel bar behind the glovebox is usually the easiest place to site it as will have a magnetic base (assume RS6s don't have fancy windscreen ?) works fine through the dash & much easier & cheaper than replacing the Audi one, this is how every aftermarket SatNav install is done.
PS If RNS-E you can put into "engineering mode" then view sats, MFD is on the menu others no idea about I'm afraid !

But I don't think will have engineering mode in it, if it is satellites you are looking for try here -

Sorry thought it had to go into eng mode to see the sats - thanks for the correction - only had this fun & games with my Golf (GPS puck antenna) the Audi with the roof antenna has been perfectly behaved !andyt wrote:Do you need the engineers mode? On my RNS-E, I just go to Nav-Info and then scroll down - tells me the number of satellites there.
