pages 42+ of this document have a detaled description of the system, it's for the RS6, but it's the same system, made by the same people KYB/KW
I think that is where some confusion arises, RS6 = 16 bar, RS4 = 14 bar???

imo Audi did this for 2 reasons:
-legal/lawsuits/economic
-customer relations/internet traffic

not technical
have some failed? sure, but imo, not significant, not outside the realm of what would be exected due to mfg defects, harsh service, improper installation or servicing...but not on the order you would expect for a fundemental design flaw...which would approach 100% over time...

I'm glad mine seem fine, I'm glad that I can get a new suspension for free on a car (that will be) 5 years old and have >50k miles on it...

when you analyze the letter:

'some customers', ie, not Audi, have reported leaks, not dealers, not Audi itself, but 'some customers'...they do not say there are leaks, only 'reports'

as 'a valued customer' they have addressed it, not because they found leaks, but because 'some customers' have reported them...

and it's in NA (of which >90% of the cars are in the US), land of litigation...

This is indeed very interesting Athur. Giving your stance on this particular subject, do you feel you should be making reference to a car with and let me quote you, "the same system made by the same people"??

Out of curiosity, are you able to get your AoA mole to give us data for the 6?

I'm not starting a fight with you my friend. I just find it surprising. It would be very easy to interpret wording of the letter another way.

the system is not made by Audi, it is made by KYB and KW and sold to Audi...you can bet they are sharing in the cost of this action...spread out the expenses...

I'm not interpreting it....those are the actual words...

it does not say Audi has found a problem
it says customers have reported one
and to ensure customer satisfasction they take this action
not because they found a problem and do so...

how would you interpret it (without 'reading between the lines') ?

For clarification

A leading Audi dealership state the max pressure on the RS4 is 15 bar.

The minimum/marginal is 12.5

I am only suggesting that it is not unusual for a company like Audi to put a positive spin on something they HAVE to do RELUCTANTLY in order for it to look like they are the good guys and not to admit any liability or fault. Its not like they are going to admit that a large number of cars have a fault are they? Particularly in the states. Look at Toyota to see how such an admission (on a tiny number of cars) works out.

The line, "we have developed improved shock absorbers" tells me a story. Improved how?
