Tailpipe valve??

Post by Vorsprung_Durch_Technik » Wed Jul 14, 2010 1:02 pm

Hey folks

Little question.

My S4 has developed a strange noise from the right bank exhaust tailpipe. On further investigation it would seem that the valve in one on the two pipes that comes out of each rear silencer is almost stuck shut. It looks vaccum controlled via air pipes. Anyone come accross this? and how is it supposed to operate. The left bank pipe with the valve in it is open when the car is idling and moves freely when you push the ram inwards.

Im thinking about removing the valve altogether. Just looking for advice really?

Many thanks in advance.

remove it, there is a guide here on the B7 RS4 as its the same concept. I had to use loads of WD40 and a long screwdriver and hammer to get it moving.

Position it open then bung the pipes. cable tie them together so they dont flap around and voila

Ok I took the plunge and did the mod as talked about above, pulled off the pipe to the buttterfly valve in back boxes and blocked up the green pipe and black hose....I didnt want to believe it would make a difference, but it honestly has made a difference slightly to pull and in noise. Who would have thought it????
