Steve, I saw Fifth Gear the other night.

Tiff didn't like the RS6 and loved the Merc, even though the RS dusted the Merc doing a lap of the test track, albeit in very wet conditions favouring the four wheel drive.
A dry run would have been more interesting, but hey ho.

Strange, as Tiff liked the RS6 when he drove it at launch!

It wasn't Tiff, it was Jason Plato in last nights episode.
The soaking wet conditions was hardly a fair way to have a battle between them as the Rs is always going to smoke a rear wheel drive car.
Looks like I'm not going to be dissapointed with my decision to switch brands.
Here's the link for anyone that missed it:

Possibly so. I'm afraid Mercs do nothing for me, I can't see them as anything other than something that you drive whilst dodging coffins (as an 80 year old not because it's about to slap you into a tree!).

Anyway, good luck!

Plato - Aristotle, they're all the same to me. To be honest, I was completely trashed on A class.
The long and short of it was, the RS6 didn't seem to fare well against the Auditor's car.

I'm afraid I feel the same way. The men in grey who talk binary buy Mercs.

My big concern with Merc or BMW is the RWD and all that power & torque....otherwise I'd be tempted...

I used to have the previous shape E63 Merc and it was terrific fun. I think that is what I am missing with the Rs6, hence I'm going back, it's just too grippy.
Worst thing was that full beans overtaking in the wet at anything less than 40mph resulted in wheelspin which was a bit hairy the first few times, but on private roads with nothing to bump into it was great fun with the traction control off.
I think I just liked the thought that it was going to try to kill me at the first opportunity that made it the fun it was. I'm just not getting that in the Audi, and I miss it.

Holmax.
I note your thoughts and feelings about the E63 are not dissimilar to Plato's.
I can understand this, the RS6 is probably too refined with respect to the driver's intimacy with the tarmac.

Is the Merc faster in a straight line than the RS? ( in the dry).
For me, it comes down to a mix of aesthetics and the reassurance of 4wd on wet roads and of course the RS's blistering power.

I might go for a test drive to experience the E63 for myself.

Holmax, If within three months I produced £50K can I buy it? Shame you don't want an older more refined C5 RS6 as part X ;)

I was dissapointed with Plato's take on the RS6, I still think it would be quicker, even in the dry. I drove the E63 at Brooklands and it was mental, maybe I am a whimp, I prefer the security of the 4 wheel drive. However the C5 RS6 was a better drive than the current C6. Good luck with the Merc.
