DRC Confirmed as busted!!

Hi All,

Had my B7 in to be lowered with APS yesterday and they made a shocking discovery!

Both front shocks were completely nackered with all the DRC fluid down the struts and all around the wheel bay! So a quick call to Audi Shrewsbury to confirm whether they would look at the vehicle even though it has had H&R springs fitted... I patiently waited for the call back and to be honest I was expecting them to say No!! but to my surprise they said yes!! plus they told me they would order all the parts in advance for Thursday so that my car would be ready to pick up Thursday night... and of course all work is under waranty... fantastic job to Shrewsbury Audi!

because this problem has been there since I bought the car I've not known any different in the way it handles, so I'm very much looking forward to putting her through her paces thursday night :)


Another good thing is that I'm meeting Craig at lunch time today to fit the bluetooth and Road Pilot in my car... it's a good week!

I thought the car was needed for 2 days to replace the DRC to ensure the pressure in the system has stabilised correctly overnight?

Mine was - both times. They have to carry out a pressure test overnight.

no need for that as long as you vauum the system down correctly i.e remove all the air

I hear what you're saying, but the pressure test is to test the seals on the shocks once repressurised fully. Perhaps its not a requirement, but this was done on my car - twice.

OK thanks for the info, I will mention it to them on Thursday when it goes in... although the girl in the service dept that checked my car in didn't know what DRC was, but no big drama...

Before I had my DRC fixed I asked 3 UK Audi dealers what needed doing and they all said that the instructions they have from Audi UK are to replace the shock absorbers, re-pressurise the system and then leave it to stand over night before re checking the pressure to ensure there are no leaks.

I guess Audi UK are just being extra careful?

mine was in for the 2 days also.

was told it had to be left overnight

perhaps if the canisters are replaced it makes a difference?
they are not in this action
I also looked at the repair/charging procedure and the over night is not mentioned..

they do say (emphatically) charge it before lowering
drive for 1/2 hour and recheck...

5 Hours really? Very surprised at at that. The overnight was carried out (twice on my car) for shocks only. No valves, or accumulators.
