Thanks bam bam. I'll have a browse but I think I'm going to have to get coilovers as I don't remember getting too many receipts with the car. Just the service book. But I'll check.

Good choice re coilovers, if you find anywhere with PSS9s (variant B16) in stock, PM me. I'll buy 'em.

To be fair, bodywork it is mint and no other problems than the DRC. Love it to bits but it's scaring the <beep> out of me at the moment!!

Bam bam, I'll let you know if I come across any.

Don't worry too much about it or you won't enjoy it. You're not the first to be caught out by DRC, and you won't be the last. I knew about the DRC issue and I still managed to buy one with fooked DRC.

Same for the gearbox, it may or may not go. Same for a lot of cars. On other cars you could be looking at problems with PD injectors or particulate filters, or dual mass fly wheels or fragmenting engines or splitting subframes (ahem, M3 ;) ).

H&Rs mate and if you can splash out a few extra hundred then get the Hotchkis ARBs at the same time.

Wint11 - if you managed to get a hold of some H&Rs ensure whoever fits them also installs some genuine Audi top mounts (not that expensive).

Right guys. Firstly thanks for all the advice. Yes I should have done research and all that but I'm impulsive so I saw one in my price range that didn't appear to be a shed and bought it. So yes, massive error but nevermind.

Right then, I've got my eyes on a set of H&R Coilovers for £992. The problem I now have is getting somewhere to fit them. I've been to a local garage to enquire and he rang a person I actually know to enquire about how they're fitted who is a former Audi head tech. He basically said they're a bastard and he wouldn't ever do another. Due to that, the garage I went to also said they wouldn't do it so I'm back to square one. The problem they said was what to do with all the hydraulics once the new coilovers are fitted. Can anyone instruct me loosely as to what's involved and furthermore whether they know any garages in the West Midlands that will take it on?

Also, is there any chance the DRC is not the issue that I am experiencing? Ie. is there anything else it could be? From reading what I've read I'm 95% certain it is, but the only nagging thought is people have mentioned leaking fluid, whereas mine is not leaking any fluid. Or was this just as a result of a catastrophic failure as opposed to a general failure?

I apologise if you guys seem to speak about nothing other than DRC's but this could be the difference between me keeping the car or chopping it in.

Cheers.

Mate, you still need to do your research don't you? If you are in the West Mids then the best move you can make is to get over to Unit20 (although Lee - the Guru - Grizz is on holiday till the 20th) and get them to do it. They are one of only 2 or 3 recomended RS specialists in the UK and will sort you out no end. They can supply H&R's and fit them correctly, and probably for less than its gonna cost you buying them seperate.

Whilst you are there get them to do a health check and you'll be on your way to having a car worth owning.

The "audi tech" is full of it. I did it in my garage with axle stands and posted a tutorial on how to do it. There's nothing to it. Barely more complicated than any other car.
