Sorry to say but you would need an interface to be able to control your iphone. What I did was install a DLO homedock and a kufatec IMA think it was about €250 all in . The homedock as it's name implies is for use in the house but it can be adapted for the car. Or you can go the full kufatec route http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info ... ntrol.htmlseanypeeps wrote: p.s Shoppinint did you say you could change the tracks from the headunit or did i need to conect a vid lead for this?

Sorry for the hijack, but how do you rate the xcarlink? easy to fit? good quality? Don't suppose you got the bluetooth module aswell?Shoppinit wrote:Aux input is still there, but the iphone now goes through an xcarlink.
I take it this is the one i would need?

I've been meaning to get my iphone connected for a while.
Yeah, that's the one. I like it. Sounds quality is good - better than through the tuner, and I love being able to control it through the steering wheel (or headunit). It does what I want it to do and it's pretty inexpensive. It's very easy to install, but I had a bit of a mare because I wanted the cable to come out under the arm rest and the cables were not quite long enough to leave the box in a convenient place. So I had to take quite a lot of stuff apart to run the cables where I wanted them. If you put it in your glove box, then it's a 30min job start to finish.
I have got the bluetooth kit, but I haven't got round to installing it. I'll have a go at that this weekend if I get time.

Ah, a fellow masochistslimmyreed wrote:Think I'll order one. As I want the cable in the same place where did you locate the box?
I took out the coin tray under the armrest (where the OEM phone plugs in) and removed the phone / fax plug from it. I then squeezed the Xcarlink down between the gap between the Audi phone module and the handbrake trim. It just about fits. What I should have done is remove the phone module to give myself more room because it's extremely tight. I then fed the cable from the xcarlink under all the center console trim, mirror switches etc (I had to make a couple of small mods to get the connectors through the gaps) and under the ashtray, up behind the RNS-D where it's plugged in. Definitely remove the ashtray, it'll make like much easier.
This gives me plenty of cable to plug the iphone in and have it in the armrest if I want. I tend to just leave it by the handbrake.

thanks for the advice shop!
Got mine on tuesday and fitted it. Removed the phone module in the end and just taped it to the bracket. Where i had the real ball ache was getting the damn head unit back in with the extra wiring!! It's still not in properly, but it was getting late and a firend and i had battled the head unit for nearly 2 hours. Did you struggle to get the head unit back in?
Other than that I'm really happy with it

Good result! I didn't have any trouble getting the headunit back in, but there's not a lot of space. Just make sure that the cables aren't in the way and you have to push it quite firmly until it clicks in place with a satisfying click.
