it wont be 2011 thats for sure, the B9 wont be here by then

My hunch is the B8 might be the RS5 treatment, perhaps in avant only special, at the of its life...after all the A4 and A5 do share the same under pinnings so would be relatively easy to do

That does make sense, they could keep the RS5 as a 2 door GT, and the A4 as the 4/5 door saloon/avant. It's a good chassis.

The cabrio???

That dateline makes sense for the product life cycle of the B8, and also they do not want to cannibalise RS5 sales.. so long as big V8's are still environmentally acceptable. :)

Remember that RS models come at the "end" of a platforms life cycles. So we will have to go through the B9 and that has not even arrived yet. depends if Audi want to hurry the model out of production, I mean we are seeing 3 RS models being produced now (OK TTRS aint a real "RS") ;)

It will also be of interest to see what juicy bits of the RS5 will/can cascade down to the B7 RS4 & the B8 S4.

For instance the sport suspension set up on the RS5 yields a faster time at the 'Ring than the DRC (standard on UK cars), and not because it's 8kgs lighter.

Will it be compatible with the B7 RS4 and for people who wish to part with the DRC?

The trick diff for the S4?

historically, the RS models have come about during the mid cycle facelift stage....However we have already seen the "1 at a time" rule gone, so you never know...

I would agree with Sonny's guess...2012...the B8 came out in 08, so based on a 5 year life span it works....

That's a long time to keep hold of what we've got! I can't see a replacement here at the moment that would bridge the gap, our motors are going to be getting quite long in the tooth by then!

Think it's a bit of an own goal by Audi if the current RS4 owenership mirgate to another brand because of lack of product.

something like this:

or if a M3 Touring gets announced for Avant users.

But if your think about it the B5 to B7 was much the same IIRC B5's sold between 1999 and 2001, B7 from 2005-2008, so four years in between B5 and B7; so 4 years on from 2008 is 2012?

Some tide themselves over with the C5 RS6 and S4 V8; probably much the same but with wider choice this time in RS5, TT-RS and C6 RS6 if you are staying brand loyal.

I'd be happy enough to wait until 2012, so long as it is still a V8 monster. I only bought my RS4 a year ago, so still plenty of fun to be had ;-)
