Hello all
Hello all
Hello guys'n'gels...hope you are all keeping well
Have you missed me ?
You'll like the reasons for my post anyhow:
Due to an unforseen change in circumstances I may have to look at getting shot of the porker
Really, really don't want to have to but it may be that I am going to have to have a vehicle that is easier to get in and out of (from a passenger point of view) and has a bit more space to get a reasonable amount of stuff into.
In order to contuinue to gratify my need for <ahem> adequate performance, my first thoughts of course turned to the love of your lives, however, I am a bit dismayed (although on second thoughts not surprised at all) that I cannot seem to find any cars around that have done less than 30,000 miles.
So my thoughts have turned to the RS6 Avant (I know, I can't believe I'm saying it either but it could be just what I need) and thought I'd see what you lot think?
C'mon then, I can take it, I'm a big boy

There's many a porker driver who has not regretted the change to an RS6.
Personally, the Porker is not my type of car and I am very happy with my RS!
No doubt, JR will be along in a minute to put down the RS6!

Peter,
then they would, IMHO, be the sort of people who shouldn't have bought them in the first place!
I will be well and truly p*ssed off if I have to do this believe me, but circumstances may dictate that it must be so.

Alan welcome back. Long time no see.
Have you not just answered the questgion yourself by posting on the RS4 NOT the RS6 board.
Get an RS4 for goodness sake and stop messing about. We know you love them.

Standard RS4 (is it the only standard one left?)
Re: Hello all
I'm thinking of people in similar situations to yours - ie, they have been more than happy with the Porsche, but personal circumstances have dictated a move to something more suited to passengers and their associated luggage.then they would, IMHO, be the sort of people who shouldn't have bought them in the first place!

Hi Alan - and sorry to hear about your parents on the other post, BTW
If its the 996 thats going perhaps it would be more straightforward and practical to change for the Cayenne turbo than an RS6. Am sure the Cayenne, being taller would be the easier vehicle to load and unload.
RS4 I think is far too space - limited for serious carriage of people / clutter.
RS6 seems to be on its out run now and may soon lose big moolah as new one looms up in distance.
Any road (any road - geddit? ) what could be better than KN for towing the Ult to venues?
Cheers

Hi Alan,
There are only three RS4s under 30k miles in the dealer network at the mo - and then only about 2-3k below.
I'm not sure if Dave's Noggy RS4 is still for sale though. You could try that.

Hi Alan,
We wondered where you had got to !! Good to have you back.
Could you not keep the Porsche and get another car for the Taxi routes?
From your requirements, the only issue that come to mind is that some people feel that the leg room in the back of the RS4 is limited, especially if the passengers in the front are tall. If this is an issue for you too, the trully effortless RS6 is an option.
You've probably been through this, but:
What do you need now, and will it be the same in 6/12 months?
Does it make sense to get rid of the Porsche to buy a performance estate?
Will you be happy with your choice, or will you just class it as something you had to do?

Re: Hello all
Hi Mate
Why not get quotes on what the porker is worth and how much you are going to be stuffed if forced to sell and then go and buy a sensible Pug 406 estate car, 1 year old for less money than you would have lost on the porker and keep it
Sold to the man with three cars
Also no grizzling when you pack people and goodies in the car and it receives battle damage marks

Re: Hello all
Indeed, it is (partly) age which has dictated my choice of RS6. I bought my first Audi in 1996, and it was my first automatic - due to hip and knee joints causing me pain with repeated use of a clutch pedal. I had never dreamt that I would ever choose an automatic, but needs must! I have, and do, manage clutchless gearchanges with MT, but I've never mastered getting away from rest without use of the clutch! (Learning to drive on a non-synchro gearbox helps to develop skills in rev-matching - yes, when I started driving, non-synchro cars were still available new!) I do still, on occassions, drive my wife's A2 and Corsa, but only on short journeys, or where I can hand over to her, if things get difficult.once you have had an RS4 theres no way, you would buy an RS6, too many things to mention, and im not a old as you feckers yet
When the S4 (biturbo) first came out, I made several representations to Audi UK to import the tip version, all to no avail. The next best thing to an S4 was the A6 2.7T, so I was delighted when that came out - the S6 didn't seem, to me, to offer much over the 2.7 and certainly didn't justify the additional cost. I would have loved to own an RS4, but there was no way that there would be a clutchless version. With the RS6, most of my prayers have been answered and I anticipate keeping it for longer than any car I've owned since my Scimitar GTE (which was 16 y/o when I sold it).

Re: Hello all
Before I get into thanking you all for you replies I owe you all an apology, to save re-typing here's a copy of a reply to a message from Phil:
"Subject: Re: Moving Posts
Hi Phil and thanks for the explaination.
My apologies in that case, but when I logged on last night there was no notification of the post being moved, looked like it had just dissapeared...then of course I overreacted (as is now apparent) to the other post.
Again, my apologies.
Bit touchy at the mo' I guess
Thanks again and I'll copy this to the thread by way of an apology to the rest of the gang."
So again, sorry if I offended anyone.
Unlike me to overreact eh

Re: Hello all
JJ-
Thanks mate, how's tricks?
You are sort of right, RS4 would be my first choice if this goes ahead but I'm seriously bothered by a) the lack a warranty cover I'd get and b) the mileage of the car in the first place.
Also figure that if I go this way (and please don't take offence chaps) then I may as well go the whole hog and have the total luxo-barge with speed capability.
Always the Ultima for a play
Peter,
point taken and I can well believe it too.
Tim-
thanks.
I thought about the Cayenne but it's got 2 things against it, first is it's sheer size, we struggle to get the 996 and the R32 into our garage so there's no way it'd fit, secondly it's actually a bit too tall for them to get into, they cant "climb up" into it, had this problem on holiday last year when we hired an X5!
I'd agree on the space limitations of the RS4, my S4 Avant was hardly "capacious" which is yet another reason I'm leaning towad the RS6
Would be flash having the KNT as a "towcar" now wouldn't it lol
Your jokes don't get any better do they
Martian-
but not the extra weight
My car has the factory power kit anyhow (470bhp)
Paul-
yeah, that's my point, thanks for the link (Noggy would be my choice ideally) I'll give it a look.
JR-
"and im not a old as you feckers yet "
Excellent and sort of the way I view the car sometimes too.
I also share your concerns about the handling etc. however I have to view this as a different car for a different purpose.
To this end, luggage capacity and cruisability I don't think it's got many, if any, betters.
And the out-and-out performance cannot be ignored
Excellent news on the GT3...good luck with that and look forward to seeing you at a track this season!
PhilT-
thanks...been very busy!
First option is not on, pretty restricted for garage space and the R32 is going nowhere (joint descision she's made lol).
Second point is one of the reasons I tilt toward the RS6.
Your 3 excellent questions go:
difficult to tell but it looks like being the same
unfortunately very much so
hard to say, spent most of my life wanting what I now have but I will still have the Ultima (which is also road-legal ) although I don't think I will class it as something I "had" to do, no.
KC-
how eminently sensible from the last person I would've expected it from LMAO @ Tim's comment too!
I hear where you're coming from however as I've said above space is at a premium around here!
Anyway...off to drive one of the beasts this afternoon so I'll let you know what I think.
Thanks again guys
