tyre pressure warning light

Post by Teutonic_Tamer » Fri Apr 16, 2010 8:56 pm

Hmmmm . . . I've got an amber warning light for tyre pressures flickering away in my dash!. It is NOT the usual TMPS warning that appears in the DIS - but is actually a warning light, similar to main beam!

The owners manual makes no reference to this particular warning light (though it does detail the TPMS DIS warnings). VCDS is not throwing any relevent DTCs, and I've tried the reset procedures for both tyre pressures and wheel changes - but to no avail.

Any clues?

i know when i had 2 tyres replaced the system thought i had flats, so i know the symbol for that !

could it be a symbol for the transponder pickup system, maybe it cannot read a wheel or a transponder is faulty.

just guessing here

I had this when I had the rear tyres changed and the wheels were put back on in a different order. Wheel change reset cured it so best guess would be that at least one of the TPMS sensors can't be read. IIRC you can view the sensor readings on VCDS but I can't remember which channels. At least that would tell you if they are reading and if not which one is out.

OK, no new tyres fitted, no wheel changes or rotations, and VCDS reads all four tyre pressures OK (or it did when I first checked it).

But are you both sure you had a little warning light, rather than the big warning with a 'gong' in the larger central DIS (trip compooter/radio/navi/oil temp). Mine was not in the DIS, but was just a basic warning lamp in the top of the instrument panel (immediately above the battery warning light, and to the immediate left of the cruise control warning light). Like I said, this particular warning light which I'm getting is NOT in the owners manual or quick reference guide available here http://rs246.com/index.php?name=Downloa ... tit&lid=87.

This sounds like what I had and its to do with the senors or receiver being faulty... mine turned out to be the rear axle receiver, which was replaced under warranty

OK, thanks for all the replies. I'll hook up VCDS again.

Those of you who also had this issue - were any DTCs stored?
