Ahhhh - some cars make no requirements on cold or hot - the 2.0 TFSI in the Mk5 Golf GTI (et al) can be checked hot or cold - but the B7 RS4 must only be checked when the engine oil is at normal working temperature - ie, above 85degC. You still need to wait five minutes after switching off, mine dew.

I gave them some grief last wi about my hire car and they said they would sort me out an audi replacement this wk. have do drive the nuts off the insignia to get it upto 70mph..

am seriously missing my car and getting withdrawal symptoms. you guys are lucky b@$t@rd$ to still have yours in full working order ready to drive whenever. don't take it for granted!!!

will post up more news when I find out next wk what's happening with my car.

update from Audi last week.

they think a bolt from the inlet manifold has snapped and caused the damage inside one of the cylinders (they reported earlier seeing some debris). anyone heard of this sort of thing on an RS4??

It was just an answer phone message that was left hence no more details, they are getting on with the repair. To be honest am just letting them get on with the repair

hopefully they can get this sorted out in the next few wks and I can have my car back. Got an Audi Q5 last week with the 2.0TDI engine & quattro, its much quicker than the insignia.

If its in the cyinder now, I'd be staggered if it managed to get in there without making a mess of things somewhere else....

yes its under warranty. But with the car being over 3yrs old its not a manufacturers warranty, but an audi approved warranty so an engineer from that company is coming to look at it tomorrow and see if they concur with what the audi technicians have found

i spoke to them today, unfortunately the guy I was dealing with wasnt there but someone else was trying to answer the questions / fill me in (not very well tho because he didnt know exactly what was going on)

he said there is damage to one of the cylinders and some other parts in the cylinder head and the options were

(1) replace the engine block

(2) replace with some sort of short motor ? and replace the cylinder head / faulty parts etc..

I dont really understant option 2 but he said option 1 is basically like putting a new engine in. Its up to the warranty company engineer tho to approve the repair and pay for it.
very weird

maybe he meant short engine block repair... like this

That's excellent news. bet your well chuffed. So its all a big gamble when it comes to renewing a warranty.

Thats really good news i would of been surprised if they didnt replace the complete engine. Are you going to get them to replace the clutch as the engine is out, I think i would for piece of mind.

yeah, cheers guys. Big thanks to Audi too, they didnt mess about, they looked at it and thought it needed the engine replaced and said as much to the engineer from the Audi approved warranty company so a big thanks to meine neue comerades Herr's Vorsprung, Durch & Technik!!

hadnt thought about the clutch, but think now the engine is being replaced I'll be hanging onto this bad boy a bit longer! not sure whether to extend the warranty from July onwards as the engine will now be covered by Audi, so the only other big thing I was worried about was the gearbox (gearbox died on my dads M3 a few yrs ago and was luckily under warranty because they quoted all in £5000 for the repair costs)

That's great news.

I wonder what Audi's position would have been if you didnt have a warranty? You would hope they would cover the majority of the cost? Just speculation - hopefully no one will ever need to find out.
