Brakes and pads
Well I cant say too much about the fronts because I had just put an oem set of discs/pads on when I ordered them and elected to run those for the moment so the fronts are still sitting in the workshop though I did build them up and they are much lighter than oem .
I did replace the rears though and they work fine , what I might be inclined to say is they could be made of harder steel as there is no discernible wear on the discs but that would not be too hard because the oem discs are far too soft.
Planning to fit them in the not too distant future though.
Cheers

they wear faster, and hence produce more dust...juice wrote:how do you find the standard brake pads in the b7 set up? any fade? how much dust do they give off?
having said that:
easy on the rotor (until you hit the dreaded 'pins', lol)
great intiail bite
great modulation
fade more than an agressive aftermarket pad, but for the street, I find them the best...
just bought oem pads, F & R, TRW brand $150 delivered (US)

installed them, perfect fit, oem sensors, feel just like the oem I pulled off

That works out as a great price even with the current exchange rate - I'm being quoted £260 just for the front pads. Unfortunately they don't ship to the UK, and whilst I've got a friend in the US I could get them shipped to, I'm running out of time to get the brakes changed.
Might sort some for next time though.

Re: Brakes and pads
Sorry but I have to disagree. Although I have no experience of the yellowstuff or OEM pads in a B7 setup (but will have soon), I have used them on several of my cars including a 300bhp Corrado, 270bhp B5 S4, and a 465bhp B5 S4 with a RS4 brake setup. All of these cars are driven hard, and all have been tracked.rAudiguy wrote:
With the greatest respects whoever told you this is talking rubbish! EBC pads are budget pads for the Max Power boys.
I found the yellowstuff pads to have excellent bite from cold (no warming up needed), they do not eat discs, and the resistance to fade has been amazing. What more could you want?
I agree with the comments about redstuff being sh*t.... I've only ever used them once and they destroyed my discs in no time, plus after 15 laps of Oulton Park they started to crumble away.... Never again will I buy redstuff.
Just to second Mikey's comments, I really rate the EBC yellow stuff pads. I've been running them in my 350Z for the last 12 months, along with EBC grooved disks, and they transformed the braking from the standard setup. Wear seems to have been pretty good too - certainly minimal signs of disk wear in 10,000 miles. My only complaint would be the grooved disks do generate a bit of noise.
I'm certainly considering them for the RS4.
I previously ran green stuff in a Nissan GTIR, and the pads literally fell apart within a couple of thousand miles - and they were crap during that time as well - so wouldn't touch them for a performance car.

I appreciate even the OEM pads aren't cheap but they are good pads.... it's the Disc that IMO are lacking. the JHM Discs have had good reviews on the forums across the pond but not sure if anyone if running them over hear as yet. But stick to a good pad and steer clear of squeaky Red stuff pads.WnelsonRS4 wrote: I have been recommended these pads: The Ceramic Redstuff front brake pads are DP31513C,
If you want to spend a bit more I say that the Brembo big brake conversion pack if amazing and transforms the cars braking ability even in everyday driving. with the RS29 pagid yellow pads they are just so smooth and powerful...... Defiantly one of the best mods for the RS4.
Don't know if that helps at all.

what kind of money is the brake upgrade?

+2, yellow stuffs are doing a good job on my RS4, better bite, less fade. and importantly no pad deposition like the OEM Pagid's which is what was warping my disksDave_M wrote:Just to second Mikey's comments, I really rate the EBC yellow stuff pads. For info, I've just ordered replacement brakes as follows:
Front disks - OEM - pw-motorsport (via ebay) £549.99 +£13.99 delivery
Front pads - Yellow Stuff - Camskill £146
Rear pads - Yellow Stuff - Camskill £55
That's a saving of just over £240 from what the main dealer quoted me - so pretty happy with that.
