Early new car delivery??

Post by bjacks » Mon Jan 05, 2004 12:35 pm

One of my mates ordered a new 911 C4S a few months back, gaining a late Feb/early March delivery slot, with a Jan build slot.
He's just had a call from the dealers to let him know that the car is actually in their showroom 2 months early.
From what I have read over the years it is very uncommon for a car to be built and delivered early, especially a demanded model like the C4S. It has a pretty cracking spec and rare Atlas grey paintwork so what are the chances that it is a cancelled order? Would they have to let you know?
He's a bit suspicious that it's early - are people cancelling for the forthcoming 997?

Cheers for any insight chaps,

Ben

Don't forget that the spec of a car already on the order book can be altered - this doesn't necessarily mean that two month's worth of production have been cancelled. It may just be that the dealer had one cancellation and decided to re-spec that production slot to match your mate's requirements.

This is quite common and is nothing to worry about.

Doubt it is anything to do with the 997 as wide body versions will not be out for a couple of years

Good news then. You just always hear of nightmare stories about people waiting months and months for their new cars.

What would be wrong with the car if it is early or even if it is a cancellation?
As long as the spec is the same there is no issue. He should be rejoicing

Unless his money were tied up until the original delivery date. I wouldn't fancy having a new car sitting in a showroom for a couple of months with everyones kids playing in it and dribbling all over the dash...

Sounds like a good opportunity to negotiate a discount for taking early delivery. All you funds are tied up in a high interest savings account and you will loose interest payments for early withdrawal of the cash. Does the dealer really want the car in stock for 2 months. I doubt it so don't look to keen on taking delivery and try to use the situation to your benefit.

I'm sure he's got the cash ready but I can see plenty of reasons why one wouldn't have, eg not yet sold previous car/house etc. The dealer just called him and said "it's here", now warning that is was due to arrive. I'd be pretty bloody excited if it was mine
Thanks again guys,

Ben
