Another stupid question from me!

No

RS4 Sprint blue 100% Audi - Gone but will never be forgotten.
S3 Stronic on order coz I'm old

I knew already that the RNS-E doesn't play DVDs, but I'm keen to know why Audi didn't provide this function. It would have been a brilliant bonus if they did, that's for sure. I wonder if money was the reason - like having to pay royalties (or whatever it is) like when they decided to drop the full 7-digit postcode because that cost too much to them..

1) Cost. They would have had to include extra circuitry to decode the digital AV stream from the DVD and they decided that since they were designing a sat nav system they wouldn't add the cost.MoRS6+ wrote:I knew already that the RNS-E doesn't play DVDs, but I'm keen to know why Audi didn't provide this function.
2) Safety. Providing a system that plays DVDs on a screen visible to the driver has legal implications in the result of an accident - implications that Audi wanted to avoid.
That I can believe (if the postcode farce is anything to go by)..PetrolDave wrote:1) Cost. I guess they could have still implemented TVIM (or rather DVDIM) but since it can't play DVDs in the first place, is a distant fastasy!PetrolDave wrote:2) Safety.
