VAG COM Purchase

Post by rweir » Tue Dec 30, 2003 11:44 pm

Hi All,

I am looking to purchase the VAG COM product for my S4 so I can learn a little more and find any faults etc ... Are there many options around? or is Ross Tech the place to purchase this from??

Cheers,
Rich.

ross tech are the cheapest by far.. it's a bargain at the current exchange rates. It's a bit of a faff if you've never used pay-pal though.

I ordered a hex-com at the end of last year, Julie sent the wrong one initially but it was sorted out very quickly & only took a few days to come. they also send them by DHL with "internet stalking" so you can see how fast it moves across the states & how long it sits in customs in the UK

top tip.. ask them to put the order value down at $49.95 - then you've no chance of getting stung for any VAT etc

it's a cable & software to plug your car into your laptop\PC.. cool enough. but you can also check for error codes, fiddle with things.. ie the central locking etc & check sensor readings (like boost - I think)

VAG-COM is actually just the software. You need an OBDII complicant cable to use it though.

Full details of the software are at www.ross-tech.com

If you're UK based you may find this the best place to buy from : www.vag-com.co.uk

you would need the OBD2 connector type.

then its a matter of wether you want serial (getting less common on laptops) or USB.

i personally will be going for Hex-USB (Hex com also available in serial ) when i get a laptop.

usb is more common, and the Hex part means there is no software registration. you can lend it mates, use on any laptop, multiple pcs, wipe hard drives without worrying about software activation. The lead does it automatically.

I just need to get the funds for a laptop, then i'll get one!

So does that mean the S3 needs the 16 pin adaptor?
Where do you plug the lead in on your car?
Is this the package E your on about?
Cheers

package E is the hex usb yes.

thats all your need, or the serial equivalent. the other adaptor, thats mentioned in some of the other packages are for older cars.

it is the 16 pin OBD2 connector, but in reality IIRC they only use 4 or 6 pins.

S3 OBD port is:

drivers side, under the light switch area, its underneath and in the dash as it curves round

nope. you bought the Hex version. The lead does it all.

No registration. No need to activate/deacitvate etc.

tempted to buy one, ready. Then might get off my arse and get a laptop!
