I filled up in south London at 125.9 for super and thought the same having bought earlier in the day at 119.9 a litre. The news says another hike is imminent approx 3p a litre, might be running 95RON at this rate.

Many years ago someone with Audi said I could fill my RS2 with 95Ron provided every third tankful was 98/99. Anyone here know if that still makes sense. My question is for the RS4, but I am sure everyone is interested.

This may also affect residuals in the short term.

I believe that the ECU adapts to the fuel quality so I doubt it will cause problems just won't make max power or run as smoothly, the manual only recommends that super is used not that you must use it. I'm more concerned about all the other rubbish that's going into the fuel such as all the bio-ethanol, silicon, etc as modern engines do seem exceptionally fussy..

What amazes me is oil is currently $80 a barrel and in 2008 it went to $147
a barrel $67 dearer!!!
How does that work

This was explained on the radio yesterday, three things

1: Recession has reduced investment in the oil industry

2: Incresed demand from China, India etc

3: Increased costs of less accessible oil

The real dismaying thing was that the speculation was that petrol costs were going to go up A LOT over the coming months/years.

Sorry to bring up an older thread, but another reason for this extra cost at the pumps, above what is mentioned above, is the current exchange rate. Oil is bought in $, and out £ is weak against it, so we pay more at the pumps.

The £ v's Euro remains about the same because, despite the Euro being drastically weakened with what ia happening to Greece (Spain and Prtugal etc. to follow), the £ is weak because of all our debt. Hopefully the markets will react favourably to our new coalitions spending cuts announcement, thus building confidence in investment and strengthening the £ v's $.

Having said that, Most of our exports are to the Euro zone, so a weaker £ against the Euro has its own benefits also.
