Carrera 2S or RS4?
Carrera 2S or RS4?
Hmm, what to do? Need your help people. Do I keep my RS (56 plate, 27,000mls, full milltek non-res decat, sachs clutch, Brembo big brake conversion, MRC ported manifold and custom remap, warranty expired Jan 2010) or do I go for the Porsche (1 owner, 25,000 mls, 07 plate, FSH). I've never driven a Porsche so am going for a test drive on Monday to see what the fuss is all about but I'll be very surprised if I walk away thinking it's a better drive than the RS.
What do you think. Should it stay or should it go?

If you have never owned a Porsche, I'd say say do it if you don't need the space. The C2S is a rewarding car to drive fast, especially in the wet!!karl wrote:Hmm, what to do? Need your help people. However I would want a warranty on the Porsche - an 07 car means the warranty would have expired in 09 and may have been renewed The Porsche warranty does not permit any non -Porsche modification to the car.
RE: Re: Carrera 2S or RS4?
I am thinking about moving from my RS6 to a 911 as I don't need the space.
What about the C4S v C2S
Worried we have all got used to the quattro

Check out this months Evo, it answers the 2 Vs 4 question

RE: Re: Carrera 2S or RS4?
If it's any concillation I have driven both and the RS would win my vote every time. Porkers are very well finished though

Considered the GT3? The 996 MK1 is a kind of a classic and the GT3 is damn good value and probably not too different from the prices you are looking at. Neither will be as comfy or easy to drive as the RS4 but will keep better residuals.karl wrote:.. or do I go for the Porsche (1 owner, 25,000 mls, 07 plate, FSH). How about a turbo Porsche, in case stock power isn't enough some day and you don't want to spend dozens of thousands to make it faster?

I don't really know how you can compare these cars. They're TOTALLY different driving experiences.
I'm in the fortunate (and temporary) position of having both my RS4 and an early 996 C2. Some days one is better than the other & vice versa. The 996 (like most 911s) is all about delicacy & balance and when you get it right, on the right roads it's truly sublime. The RS4 has different, admirable qualities.
As mentioned elsewhere, if you've never had a 911 you're missing out big time. The bog standard Carrera is a wonderful thing.

The Porsche has good build quality but very different cars to drive. Personally I would opt for the RS4 as it's much more practical for me but if you were really stuck on a Porsche then it would have to be the Turbo or the C4S. My choice would be the Turbo all the way.

I am lucky enough to own a 2001 996 turbo and an rs4 avant at the moment. (the porsche will be going soon though).northernpar wrote:The Porsche has good build quality but very different cars to drive. The porsche is very much a drivers car but I personally prefer my rs. They seem comparably fast in real terms but I feel more confident making progress in the twisties in the audi.

I still would go for the 997 as it'll be a great car to own, I'd like a 997 gt3 in white but that'll be a few years yet

Audi rs6 c6 avant - hopefully coming soon
Audi A3 black edition
E9x 330 msport convertible - going soon
Defender 110 utility
RS4 Avant - gone
