Audi Warranty Blues...

Don't know whats wrong with the car yet, after 4 days of looking at fault codes the dealer says it was over reved, probably by miss gear!!!

It seems that the fault codes only there to cover Audi and does not actually tell you what is wrong with the vehicle........

The car over revved and lost all power, then started blowing underneath. The engine was still running but could not get any drive/ revs. Free wheeled to layby and turned off engine.
It would not then start.

I will post the fault codes when I get them, depending on todays outcome I will provide more info. In contact with solicitor with regards what my options are, still waiting for the dealer to confirm which part of my Warranty I have invalidated and for what reason.

Nearly 3 weeks on and the car is still with the dealer who are waiting for Germany to make a decision...
After various reports and data taken from the ECU, they are still holding out.............can't believe how disappointed I am and the wife's at breaking point...

I can't believe how stressful this really is and to date the car has still not had a bolt removed......

I'm now at the point I am going to get the car fixed at my cost, the audi service is S**t to say the least. No wonder Audi specialist are becoming
more inviting for Audi owners. At least they have customer service in mind.

Try to keep the pressure on - 3 weeks of nothing is just stupid on their part - Im feeling for you dont let them win.

Dont bother with a rebuild.

I suspect there is more to this incident, if they could prove over-revving they would have said something already but silence. This sort of behaviour is really not acceptable and just makes it more difficult to get it resolved.

I would ask them if this is design fault, mention Toyota and see what happens.

If you are sure that you have done nothing wrong, I would get an independant report done first, somebody like MRC etc. Alternativey, take it to another dealer

If you decide to repair, do not take it to adui and pay them.

how the feck can a missed gear change break an engine??!! Towns would be full of wrecked cars!!

You would have to plant the throttle (bouncing off the limiter) for a much longer period of time than a missed gear!

Sounds like they're just trying to wriggle out of their responsibility to, assuming we have all the facts.

Audi after 3 weeks have now said as the car was over revved and they cannot find any associated fault codes with regards mechnical failure they will not cover under warrenty!!
It looks like I am going to have to dig deep and pay for it myself. What I can't believe is that they now want circa £500 off me to strip it down and tell me what the damage is...
surely if the fault codes tell them so much, they can tell me what the damage is and the approx costs without paying £500 for the pleasure?? Bast**ds.............

Does any one know what sort of costs this will be? I suspect a couple of bent valves.... budgeting around 4K. An indpendant has said he could probably do it for 2-2.5.

I am now in discussions with the insurance to see if they will cover me if it is as a result of an accidental miss gear?? currently not looking good...
We have circa 20 Audis on our fleet at work, for which I am now in discussions with the Company chairman to have Audi removed as an option.... F them....

Now that you seem to have hit a brick wall with Birmingham what are your thoughts to contacting one of the recommended dealers always mentioned on here? Camberley isn’t it? Would involve you forking out for transport there but with the overall cost involved perhaps it might be worthwhile? In my mind if they say the same thing at least you might feel more comfortable and trusting with the decision (but still puzzled)?

Is your car on extended warranty?

Iv just read through the post again, did they say hat the damage was to the engine/transmission, surely if the car came to a halt and the engine was still running, this would be a transmission/clutch problem?

Assuming that the wifes car is a manual....

Not wanting to be awkward, but look at it from Audi's point of view.

Car comes in with broken engine.
Fault codes show car has over-revved (Not sure on the Audi ECU, but my 7 will actually tell me the max revs achieved!)
The car has no other faults - ie slipping clutch / broken gearbox / drivetrain failure

How can the car

whilst in 4th at 80 mph it rev'd it's nuts off...

with a transmission and a rev limiter that wont allow that?

Now, if your Mrs had accidently changed from 5th to 2nd at 80 mph, and let the clutch up, then yes the engine would have "revved its nuts off" and gone into meltdown and shown "over revs" as a fault code

Much as I hate to say it, with the details you have given, I'd be behind Audi at this point.

If the engine is stripped, and there is something broken in the transmission then it is plausable that it could have revved its nuts off due to a fault, but even still I would want to see a fault with the rev limiter

Sonny - The car has it's original warrenty as it is only 2 years old......

Thanks again for the interest, the car is being stripped as we speak at my cost as the stealer still can't tell me the extent of the damage....
I've had enough of talking about it all now and the grief I have had from the Mrs is beypnd belief.....

Crispy - No offence taken, I was driving and am not convinced I made 2nd as didn't feel the extra load on the clutch which would of happened if hit 2nd gear....

Don't know guys, just disappointed with the way the dealer has approached things, not even a sniff of goodwill..... still quoting 4hrs at £110 per hour to tell me what the
damage is and repair costs.....I am talking to a couple of local independants, not really worried about invalidating the warrenty as it ant worth jack sh*t....

On a side issue the mother in law arrived sat wuith her 07 Cooper S, emission light on!! Blown turbo BMW were out within 45 minutes, job completed today, new turbo, no questions....


Had enough of cars at the minute....
