Warranty Direct just refused to renew

Post by Balchy » Fri Feb 26, 2010 12:17 pm

Hi all

I just called WD to discuss my renewal (due today). They had put it up to 862.50, on a car (64k miles) with DRC already replaced and with no claims.

Given that, and for me and my circumstances, it is not especially cost effective, so I wasn't particularly keen to renew and was looking for a much cheaper premium before thinking about renewing.

Anyway, they went to check with their underwriters, and told me they wouldn't be renewing for any price!

Thought I'd let you all know. I don't think I've read on here so far that people have had problems renewing.

Did not think that you could be refused a renewal? I think if you are already insured with them they have to renew? Or is a Warranty different to Insurance?

Some expert will tell us

Interesting point, as they did send me an automatic renewal letter, but to be honest, I was thinking of cancelling it, rather than hoping to save some money with a cheaper premium if you see what I mean. Just surprised me that after thinking about it, they decided they didn't want my business!

Mine renews on 3rd March with WD and Im paying 750 quid. Ive have had no issues with the renewal either. I think it might help if you call them back and fight your case a bit. You can use my name if you want as an example of a recent renewal. Also, if you push for an apology you might gate a lower renewal quote. Im on the extra care plan too.

I will wait and see what they offer me next month too. I have had one claim and have one more currently in the pipeline. The main reason I keep it is to make selling the car easier in the future as it is not particularly cost effective for me at the mo.

I'd be very careful. They have more data than any of us have and their underwriters are smart business people.

Off topic, do they cater for cars that have been modified?

I hate insurance, its the most patronising industry. They won't insure because statistically they don't achieve their margin targets, which means that their current policy clearly pays out too much, which in turn means they will adjust the policy (e.g no mods, full Audi service history or excluding known issues e.g. suspension (this data obviously comes through the claims system right! so they know what to exclude) That said therefore us RS6 owners must be claiming. Can anyone tally up the amount claimed vs the cost of the policy over say 3 years it must be levelled If you claim in the first year the cost would go up the second year anyway. So long an short of it, expect the premiums to go up, the service level and cover to go down until the insurance margin is achieved. If you can afford it keep the money in a pot and away from these people.... Just my view

No they wont normally cover a peformance mod, but accept that coilovers are cheaper to repair than DRC. They are however covering my gearbox, even with the gearbox map. Like i said, they wont cover it as a perfrmance mod, but if you can prove its worth as a reliabilty mod then your ok.

OK I am not going to question your expertise. Who would you recommend for such policy's ?

Just renewed mine with WD. I have made 1 claim at about £1k and apart from all the steps it all went through well.

I am still on original DRC. They are not taking on new RS6's without warranty but will renew if you already have an existing policy with them.

WD still seems to be viable but as Steve says, new warranties are out...
