Ha ha ...yes thats true.

One of the main reasons Rob's car interested me more than others was the fact Rob had done a lot of the work I was looking to do when I got one.

How is he anyway? Did his op go ok?

Yeah he's alright.....the old cripple!

I had a bit of a laugh at his expense yesterday. I'd left my B5 outside his house after it came back from the paintshop. Late that eve I went over to collect it with my wife. I'd texted him to let him know I'd be coming for the car, but he hadn't received the text. As a result, he thought someone was nicking my car, jumped off the sofa in great pain, and thought "How the hell am I going to explain to J someone's nicked his car??!!"

Hahahahaha.

:biggrin3:

We were going to go up Audi today and drop my B7 off and discuss the RS5 with the relevant salesman but in the end it didn't happen...

re: walnut shells, Audi (amongst others) have used this method...it works, but the debris may cause more issues than it solves...
there is speculation that it has damaged the cylinder walls/coating on some Audi engines...

as far as increasing Q by port/polish/matching plenums, heads, exh manifold

from what I gather doing all of the above on a inefficient engine like a SOC 16V Chev push rod small block, may at best, yeild 3-5% HP...this on a engine with low hanging fruit, a very low vol eff to begin with...
the RS4 engine is already optimized: 2 intake valves, good port matching, well designed plenum, 4 cams/variable, etc.
there is not much to gain, maybe a % or two...maybe...

When I was younger Lotus cortina days and RS1600 I would have the engine blue printed and gasflowed. My question now is if polishing improves gasflow why are golf balls dimpled??

That may be true, but I think every single person who has had the work done has seen a marked improvement on performance.

Yeah, it was just hysterical: roll: :P

Billy - on the mend slowly, hopefully won’t be too long before I’m back to normal.

Just to clarify what happened with my/now your car, she was indeed put back to stock after MRC opened her up again following trialling a VTA set-up with the crankcase feed.

As build-up was still occurring there was little point it keeping it as it was due to the side effects.

that is very interesting:
so after 2k miles with the blow-by venting/cyclone seperator disconnected the deposits about he same as 6k miles (3 times as much) with the crankcase recirculated...

1 that tells me the deposits are not formed by blow-by/crank case venting and the cyclone is pretty effective...

2 the ones at 20k miles do not look 10 times worse than 2k, or even 3 times as bad as the 6k, ie, non linear...
they form quickly initially, and taper off, the rate of formation decreases...self limiting...

if I had to assign magnitude
2k 3
6k 6
20k 10

very interesting...
I'd like to see 50k miles, or more...

now granted, this is only based on 1 car, but interesting none the less...

Good to hear mate!

Also thanks for clearing that up.

The dimples create a turbulent boundary layer which remains attached to the golf ball longer than laminar flow resulting in a low pressure wake and a reduction in drag. Resulting in the ball travelling further than an ordinary sphere.
