P_G wrote:A few further questions for you sims?
Are you a saloon, Avant or cab? Avant
How much fuel did you have on board at the time?25 litres
Was it just you or did you have passenger / extra weight on board? 2 people combined weight 120kg
Are you using 95, 98 or 99 RON fuel? 99 Shell
What was the external temperature? 5 degrees
Did you have the accelerator flat to the floor before you hit 3000rpm or hit 3k rpm then nailed it? hit 3k and then nailed it, oops, did I do wrong?
I am an owner, and wish to have a long association with this great box of tricks, but I wish to extract all I can out of it that is possible and yet keep the car standard. I bought the B7 RS4 for the great overall package and very mindful the engine is a legend. But for legends to thrive, they must deliver what they claim.mark758 wrote:Assuming from what you have said that you are not a B7 owner yet Sims?
I've come from a 300+bhp car weighing 300Kg lighter so I know it has more than 300bhp lol
Few things really....
1. Like PG I've had my car on the same dyno a few weeks apart with 50bhp difference.
2. Unless these cars were putting out over 400 they just wouldnt record the figures they do. You can see punters on youtube doing 12.8 quarter miles and even a mapped car doing 187mph gps.
3. Also have had a similar E92 M3 experience - now let them get on with it![]()
4. People wanting to get away from other cars while they make large unauthorised bank withdrawls keep stealing them - a good endorsement?
5. I keep noticing speedo needle movement never quite believing it
1) Dyno differences - I accept that, therefore I provided the example of 2 Audi's being tested at the same time.
2) Are these the best examples, and are they modded. Yes.
3) E92m3 - I have no knowledge but will look into it
4) An excellent example - a bit like the Sierra Cosworths of the 80's. But these cars did make the power as proved by their success on the race track. They ran rings (sic) round the E30 m3's, till the engines expired.
5) I am in agreement with you there, but that is not science.

so why then shout about it from the rooftops. 1st page in the Audi RS4 brochure states " you are in control of 8 cylinders, 420ps and 430nm torque". and next page carries on with that themehody7869 wrote:PS or BHP isn't what it's all about.
Irrelevant, I'm sorryhody7869 wrote: Traction, handling, utility (Avant) etc. etc. all come into it.
It was coldhody7869 wrote: On a cold day it's fast and vice versa.
I too love it for what it is, but that does not prevent me from questioning if it is all that it promised to be and progress is a result of that inquiry process.hody7869 wrote: I love it for what it is not what it's supposed to be.....

Best to nail the pedal to the carpet at 2k rpm and then start timer at 3k rpm through to 8k; I originally did the same and then the proposed method and it can take up to 0.3 second off. Minus the weight of an additional passenger, who knows. Also, how many miles have you got on the clock and how old? and did you have TC'off'?
Put it this way, mine (Avant) is consistently doing 8.2 to 8.1 with 61k miles on the clock and just me in the car and I am big boned. If you are getting around that time up to 8.4/8.5 it is in fine health.

When Evo did atest on the RS4 they did a 0-60 IN 4.5 AND 0-100 IN 10.9 These figures suggest the car is putting out its quoted power. The R.R. is not scientific. The M3 is about the same quoted power and their 0-60 in 4.9 and 0-100 in 10.7. R.R. suggest they are putting out its quoted power. It would appear the problem is with the rolling roads and not the car.
I can also confirm from experience that there is nothing in it perfromance wise on straight roads between my standard RS4 saloon and a V8 BMW M3 coupe. 98 octane fuel, approx 15C, 2 up in mine, 1 up in the M3. I'm happy that my car is putting out IRO 420PS

Add my two pence worth, surly out of the box the RS4 "did make" 414bhp, it is due tp the Carbon build up that is effecting the performance of the engine, so it is in fact a FSI trait. as Dynos have proven that when the head/valves are cleaned the car reaches its factory performance figures, unless there is other problems such as a vacuum issue.
So some one please correct me if im wrong, all FSI engined cars (VW,Porsche) will not make the manufacturers claimed figures.

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Are they modded...yes and no.
Yes - with just a software remap giving it another 20bhp - I think Art had calculated it would need at least 440bhp to hit a true 187, so.....
No - I've watched standard cars hit 12.8 quarter miles myself.
For what it's worth I am satisfied from the experience I've had from RRs, on the road with other vehicles and the seat of my pants that my little piece of the legend is thriving quite nicely
'Best examples'....Who can say? Unless we stick all the B7 RS4s ever made in the same test in the same condition on videos on youtube I'm really not sure there is much mileage in that arguement tbhBut for legends to thrive, they must deliver what they claim.

as much as I'd love to say you're right, unfortunately you aren't. We've just had a V10 R8 on the dyno in France last week, it dynoed 535 crank with a Supersprint exhaust that removes the 2 main cats, but retains the stock precats. On Supersprint's dyno, it had put out 548 PS a few weeks before, but their Maha has some weird correction factors. After remap, it dynoed (on our Cartec dyno) a very consistent 575 to 585 crank PS.sonny wrote: So some one please correct me if im wrong, all FSI engined cars (VW,Porsche) will not make the manufacturers claimed figures.
