Just a small point guys, I know that these cars have a huge intrinsic value. I realise that nobody wants to see one of these in the hands of a 17yo essex boy complete with baseball cap (incorrectly fitted.....lol), with flouresant lights on the sills, and a couple of spot lights bolted to the bumper, and HUGE tailboxes from Hlafords bolted to the cutoff tail pipes.

But spare a thought for someone like me. I have wanted one of these or an RS4 for many many years. Never had a fantastic job, but through luck and borrowing managed to get somewhere near owning one. Watched auto trader weekly, but all out of reach. Finaly, one came up that i had a chance to bid into my price bracket.

After much haggling, gone it for a shade over 11K! 64k miles, great condition, grizz has seen it and liked it I know it#s actualy worth, ball park 13k ish, and i was very lucky and patient.

Some on here have very very deep pockets, and i'm very very jealous.....lol, but (as Stumpy will confirm......I hope......lol), my 6 has a great home and is a gorgeous car that is looked after to the best i can afford (now jobless....lol).

Sometimes the odd cheap one coming up from time to time can be a good thing, get some of thoise guys who really appreciate the speed and power these things have, and not just a rich guys play thing.

My last comment was aimed at NOBODY in this forum, or this site, i have honestly never had a problem with ANYONE on here, but guys please do remember that not everyone who owns these has bottomless pockets......lol.

Trying to work out right now how to afford a belt change in the near future, even considering trying to do it myself, and pooing myself incase the box is slipping.....lol

Well said. And I'm sure no one would have any problem with you owning one! The depreciation of these cars is inevitable! No point getting depressed because a couple of sub £10k ones turn up. That's probably as cheap as they'll ever get!

Oh, and my pockets are deep, but only because I keep plunging my hands to the bottom to try and find some change to pay for the latest part that my car doesn't really need!

Exactly. Example: I just replaced the air quality sensor because it was causing a DTC when I scan the car. I never use the auto recirc, and I never will. It wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever if I hadn't replaced it, but I just had to. YOu all know what I'm saying :)

If a CAT D is worth £10,000 and the average good condition value is around £18,000 then all you need to do is just over £6000 worth of damage and it will be written off! In a 6 that doesn't take a lot.

From what I hear, the belt isn't rocket science to change. I've changed plenty of timing belts before, but I admit that the job intimidates me on the RS6. I'm pretty sure that it's not hard to do a better job than your average stealer though, even if you'vfe got 2 left thumbs and decent hangover on.

A slight shunt from behind and you're probably looking at new exhaust, manifold, cats, lambda sensors etc. THere's your 6 grand right there.

raceman - I think they can be very expensive to run but don't have to be astronomical. When I bought mine I was lucky enough to have the DRC replaced with H&R's and a new gearbox as part of the sale as these were shot when I saw the car - I did have a specialist give it the once over before I bought it.

For ongoing cost it very much depends on how dirty you want your hands to get - I'm happy to do basic servicing / brake pads and disks myself (saving ££ on basic labour) but will take it to a specialist once a year for a full health check and would use a specialist to have anything major / complicated sorted. I've set-up myself a TPS account to get parts at trade prices also which reduces the overall running costs. I've also invested in VAGCOM for diagnostics which helps a lot. Having said that I don't think the specialist are expensive for the wealth of experience and expertise they can provide and offer a far better service than a vast majority of Audi dealers (there are some good ones out there).

I've found myself that forum members are a wealth of advice and guidance and I thank you all - I would be happy to help anyone out whenever I can as I think most people here would also.

Not bad the the spanners myself shoppinit, but dam that cambelt looks difficult, and SO much has to come off, notwithstanding the consequences of getting it wrong, plus having no garage, and doing it in the road fill me with dread like you wouldn't believe.......lol

I got TPS account myself, and have many friends in the trade, but most of them say "nope, bugger off" when it comes to complex (any.....) jobs on the beasty.

Beats me how Grizz is never phased, burnt engine (in workshop when i was up there), no problem!
