MTM mods & warranty

Post by JohnW » Thu Dec 11, 2003 3:51 pm

One of my mates is looking to buy an MTMstage3 modified RS4 (private sale) and wants to know what sort of cover he's likely to be getting from the Audi Warranty.

If I decided to fit an MTM stage 3 to my RS4 would my Audi warranty still cover all the important bits or would they say its modified and reduce cover ?
If so what wouldn't be covered any more ??

Do MTM provide a warranty to cover anything ?

I ask as I'm also toying with the idea of doing this, but having just extended my warranty wondered if I had just wasted my money...
It seems pointless in asking the dealer as they have to go away and check anyway (don't actually know what is & isn't covered).

JR, when one of your turbos let go did Audi wash their hands with it ?
When you had your MTM done did they give you an extra warranty ?

Are the turbos covered anyway ???

So many questions. Sorry

Cheers,
Confused of Cranleigh.

John, I spoke to jr at the Midlands meet about this - I understood that they refused his warranty due to his mods. Send PhilT a PM. he might be able to shed some light on the question.

A lot depends on the dealer, some have good relationships with some tuners and seem happy to maintain warranty on the non modded bits but thats obviously a local thang. For me both Amersham Audi and Aston Green used and know AmD so are happy with AmD mods and rest of car is still covered (obviously they wont cover the modded bits thats down to AmD). AmD also mod loads of Listers cars so Listers are a safe bet too.

Other tuners will have similar reputations with other local dealers I'm sure so a lot might depend on where you live?

My RS4 had all the mods carried out by Battersea Audi and they also extended the warranty.

Thanks Guys.

I'd love the MTMstage 3, but if it subsequently all goes tits-up and I have to foot a big repair bill my missus is likely to part me from my tackle with a couple of house bricks

I get away with a lot already, just not quite that much...

Cheers,
John.

I bought my RS4 from my local Audi Dealer with a MTM St3 mod already done. The dealer still provided me a 2 yr Audi UK warranty. I guess this is case by case.

Oooh my favourite subject!!

Joules - do you have it in writing that you have a warranty with Audi UK for the MTM chip i.e. can you go to any Audi dealer for warranty work or is this actually a franchise's warranty.

If it's Audi UK and you've got it in writing it will be the first one I've come across.

audi doesn´t cover anything, not even a broken speaker if your car is modded. that is what they do here in germany. they will do that in the uk in the future too. so be sure to have a written warranty (and be sure to have read through the conditions of it completly!!!)

mtm in germany provides insurance from a swiss company called nsa. this warranty is the biggest [censored] ever. the paper isn´t worth the money you pay. if you ruin your mtm modded rs4 enigne, you will get a max. of 5.800 euros, but the complete engine costs 32.000 euros !!!!
so that is a piece of [censored]! i had problems with my turbos and the nsa wouldn´t pay. so now its at my lawyer.
btw: if other parts like turbos or gearbox or else is broken, you only get a max. of 3.600 euros.

please be always sure how the condiions of your warranty are and resist on a written one.

otherwise you will be lost, even if your tuner is your friend, when it starts about paying you will see how long.

cheers

It does not say for the chip but Audi sold this car knowing the mods done and included the info in the buyers pack? In any case do not all Audi approved cars come with 12 months Audi UK warranty as std?
