Spec C Subaru Impreza

Post by TimJMS » Sun Dec 21, 2003 12:22 am

Tantamount to heresy I know here, but this is currently causing me to reappraise the previously (IMO) loathsome Impreza. From the Litchfield Imports site :

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 'Spec C' is the ultimate performance version of the STI range, improving performance can be done by either increasing power or reducing weight. The Spec C applied both. It cuts 90kg from the 'Spec C' by eliminating front sub frames, by thinning roof panel, boot lid and windows, and by ditching luxury equipment such as air conditioning. At 1310kg, it is 120kg lighter than a "regular" Sti. Weight distribution has also been carefully thought about with the larger intercooler water spray container now beginning fitted behind the rear seat panel.

The chassis has also been improved with extra rigidity and the suspension features changes to caster and geometry set-up. Even the 17 inch Alloys feature a special new tyre design developed with Bridgestone.

The improvement in performance is just as thorough; the engine now features a lower resistance roller bearing turbo, Motor sport ECU and revised inlet cams. This all adds to a more responsive and powerful engine, torque has improved by 8.5 lbft (now 290lbft). The 'Spec C' is the ultimate performance incarnation of the STI range.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At £27.5k OTR this car can be had for just the cost of some serious RS mods.

Got to be the best value road and track metal out there at the moment. Thoughts, anyone?

Too naughty Philip.

Thats one of the "loathsome" old ones. New one is hardly handsome mind, but to quote some of your now native Yorkshire at you : "handsome is, as handsome does"....

Cool , but it's not an Impreza. So first place is up for grabs still!!

I've cut mine out, but was a little too to finish it...

I have passed the cut out over to the wife. She is teacher and her primary school class can no doubt teach Subaru a thing or two about styling!!

Being serious for a sec I have had two Imprezas one heavily modded and my brother has a STiVII with 312BHP. These cars are great for a blast but are not exactly road cars. Their bias is track unless you love frantic gear changes and your bonnet bobbing up and down. They are quick but you look a fool trying.

Compare pics on my web http://www.jfoster.dsl.pipex.com/

Joules you are making me want one more. Better sort a test drive

Frantic describes how you have to be if you want to get my RS through the gears quickly. I have always found gear shifts short and sweet in any Imprezas I have driven.

To be honest I dont really use my RS as a road car anymore.

Never owned a car for longer than the RS Gav.

Loved it now for close to 3 years. Would like to be able to keep it in the garage forever...

Would like to know now if the next '4 is worth the wait I guess, but just dont know if I need yet another shooting brake
