Exporting RS6 to NZ question

Hi Everyone,

Here's one from "left field" - We have a distinct lack of low mileage RS6's down this part of the world (believe there were approx 56 C5 RS6 imported!!).

I had a brillant idea import a good example from the UK - I could even have it checked/upgraded by the Grizz maestro before it left your shores ....
what the hell Cornishmoocher could even test drive it for me

Looks likes there's a hell of alot of govt redtape at my end ........ though a lot of this disappears if there is a European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) plate displayed.

Here's my request ......

- do your 2003/2004 cars have these plates ??
- if so can someone take a photo of the Whole Vehicle Type Approval and VIN plates so I can check in NZ that an import would be allowed into NZ.

I think these should be lcated close to the normal VIN/Chasis plate under the bonnet or the numbering may appear on the same plate ....

this photo from a 2003 NZ RS6 is under the bonnet just in front of the driver. I'm hoping either your VIN sticker/plate has more info on it OR there is another sticker that contains the Whole Vehicle type Approval info.

Yes pretty rare with only 56 (sedans+avants) in the country. In the past 12 mnths have only been 5 for sale and only 1 under 50k miles - just missed that one. It was going for 30k pounds.
The others have all done 50k - 70k miles and have all been priced around 26k pounds.

After lurking on RS246 (can't really contribute as I don't have one yet) and enjoying the stories/banter and talk of individuals road trips etc and discovering PistonHeads, I currently see an immaculate low mileage 30k miles example asking 22k pounds !!!!
still trying to finalise costs but shipping/insurance/taxes are looking like 4k pounds ........ I'd still be ahead & the benfit of having Grizz/MRC having fully checked the car
Here in NZ there are the 2 official Audi stealers but no way can I find an indie of the Unit20/MRC calibre

Other benefits - I'd have to have a holiday in the UK to officially pick it up and maybe a quick trip to Germany to feel the full potential as speeds back home are 100km/hr max !!

I really appreciate the help as if this info plate is there the import is fairly straight forward. If it isn't, then the import is probably too much of a headache.

Might not be the best idea posting up the details of you VIN plates etc. Clones anyone? No offence to the host. We know that crims watch the forums.

Contact www.eurococ.eu to get a European Type Approval Certificate (Homologation certificate / Certificate of Conformity). This should put you in good stead. Never heard of a type "plate", but the COC should get you most of the way there. Do'nt forget to look at how much import duty and VAT will cost you. Different products have different customs codes. I know that a lot of the guys importing old mustangs into the UK get a really low customs rate because they are importing classic cars rather than commodities. There might be a similar thing for the RS6 in NZ.

The roads in NZ are just made for a car like the RS6...

In the past 4000KM's it's had cambelt, timing chain, gearbox, breaks, adjusters, tensioners, ecu, abs practically everything done :p

54000 Miles, on a side note my dad lives in New Zealand

No other stickers under the bonnet re your ECWVTA plate. The VIN plate looks like your pic. Sorry mate, can't help.

Good call Eddie regarding pics of VIN plates. I wasn't planning submitting mine! Hopefully Shopinit's post has sorted things for you Andrew.

I really appreciate this I pretty sure this is exactly what my wonderful govt needs ....

It one of those really dumb situations - these cars were sold new here - they are a very low volume model all coming from the one factory- yet if you wish to import a 2nd hand car you have to prove it adheres to all vehicle emission/safety stds . This ECWTA plate/number does exactly that - without this number assigned to the actual specific car you import, the car would have to go through every individual test taking weeks and costing thousands .... bast**ds

Some poor guy recently imported one from Singapore to NZ. Went through 3 months of trying to sweet talk them, tried getting a letter out of Audi NZ (they wouldn't ) he's now trying to sell it for 1/2 price as it can't be registered to drive on NZ roads !!
only other choice he has is to export it to another country or only "track it".

So anyway thanks for your help Shoppinit, I'll go and talk to my friendly govt. official

Sounds like a nightmare Good luck with that. My understanding from this site:

is that the COC should do the trick. Not sure about the fuel consumption certificate though.

I just wanted to thank you guys for helping me ... I realise my request may have looked a tad dodgy ....

RS6Dave/Shoppinit especially, I really appreciate the effort you went to. I know it's all been said before but this forum has again helped out someone 1/2 way round the world. Without RS6Dave/Shoppinit and this forum I stood no chance - now I can at least take the next step.....
