it turns out my car has allready head a new bottom end before i bought it,probably not done very well ,ive had it from 30k now done 60, anyway heres my pics, sorry about quality always too rushed to do proper photos
see the marks on the forward drum where fluid has been passing that pressure loss cold be the slight slipping i have & the pitting on the forward drum piston , also the converter is being rebuilt ie new lock up clutch , the forward clutch drum is on back order so its a question of waiting

im doing it myself,i own an independent garage in norfolk, with 5 fitters & other staff i dont get much time to play with my own toy, have to work on mondeos & vectras instead!its been stuck on that ramp for 2 months now, desperate to get it back as soon as the last g/box parts arrive, will post results as soon as its done.
I've come over all emotional, it's like seeing an impressive African lion or elephant with its chest burst open, heart ripped out and intestines torn asunder. Splash a couple of pints of oil and trans fluid about the place and it would look like the handy work of an automotive Jack the Ripper! No offence "kbee", I'm not calling you a butcher but I couldn't bear to see mine like that.
Question: are you going to strengthen any of engine or transmission internals? Is it even worth it, say, if your trans packs it in and instead of a bog-standard replacement you order all required parts for a rebuild and then have them shot peened (2 phase hard/soft shot treatment)?

no offence taken, the only differences between my shop & stealers is
1 price
2 lush paint on walls & tiled floor
3 they dont strip & repair gearboxes, only replace
when all said & done all cars look hideous when theyve had there heart ripped out ,but the rs6 has more sh*t attached,at this point id like to make it clear if i had a workshop full of dead 6s id prob pull my hair out, grizz is welcome to them,i think it would be easy to get personally attached to them, you cant say that about a 6 year old mondeo!,i just see them as a means to fund the toys!
having said that re-buliding the box was a pleasure & easy, taking it out & replacing is a chore.

Out of interest, how much would you charge to re-build a customer gearbox in a 6?
