Having doubts about the vreds......

i get where your coming from though....I found the vreds on my RS 6 really grippy, filled me with confidence as I knew the car...then when I got into the RS 4 it was different, its got Conti's on at the mo, and it felt really splippery and I had no confidence. Unfortunately when i bought it it coincied with the 1 month period of snow, so not great timing, but the point is, is that for 1 month I couldnt drive how I wanted cos the car didnt feel stable, at least not like the RS 6 did....

Its better now, now I know the car and its stopped snowing

but I know how it feels to suddenly feel like your car corners like a pile of <beep>

When i bought my 6 it had conti's on- worst tyre in history. they were on for a week......

thats what I recon !

I was thinking, why does this RS 4 feel like im driving on an ice rink when my 2 tonne RS6 felt like it was on rails

I agree with that too! Had Contis on the S4 once, never again...

going on my experience (for what it is worth!) here is my choice for tyres and why.

1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric:- Excellent all round performance, huge amounts of grip in the wet and face hurting spleen removing grip in the dry. Lasted approx 8k miles, softish compound. Approximately £800 for 4.
2. Mitchilin PS:- on a par with the above but nearly £300 more expensive.
3. pirelli Pzero rosso:- Good tyre in the dry, but woeful in any real wet weather.
4. Conti CS:- do nothing well, to the point of being dangerous on the RS6. Expensive too.

I have not included the Vredestien Ultrac Sessanta as my issues are by no mean conclusive, but at the present moment, unusable over 60 mph when driving spiritedly.....

Don't go selling it Mooch. That car of yours is a part of you methinks? I remember you saying in a previous thread that you'd never get rid of it!

That's just wrong Mooch.

There must either be a serious fault with your tyres or there are other issues with your setup.

I have only read good reviews about the Vredesteins, which are generally regarded as a close second to the Goodyear F1s. I've run both on the S4, and currently have the Vredesteins and have no issues. Different car I know, but not that different.

I know Clive... its a worry, I can't help think that there may be something else going on, but its very strange that it only happened once the vreds were put on, besides, we all know WIM know there onions.
I have spoken to Paz, Grizz, Jiffers and also the samaritans.

I just dont know.

Feckin depressed mate.

Sorley tempted just to get rid of the whole car now, certainly am not taking it to Switzerland.

trouble is I will not sell it like it is- i couldn't do that- even to someone i didn't like, ergo- i will have to sort it, by which time, i will love it again.

I have to say tho, that this is about as bad a downer as I have had with the bitch.

if it's still a concern I'd get in touch with the supplier and sort out a swap. Maybe they just dont suit your driving style. Especially if no-one else can see an obvious "non-tyre" reason as to why you're suffering.

The last thing you need is to be lacking confidence with 500+ BHP under your right foot, doesn't matter how long it may take for the, to bed in and you to be happy. I'm sure no-one wants to read that you've had an accident and feel that it may have been due to poor grip.

They're the only thing keeping you on the road so don't "make do"...

Any chance you can put another set of wheels and tyres on to see if the problem is the Vreds or something else? If I lived closer mate I'd be round tomorrow.

Really appreciate all the advice and support guys. I amgoing to call the supplier today- camskill and talk to them. Doubt they will do out tho.
Then I am going to take the car to my mates garage and get the whole running gear checked over, then I am going to put some goodyears on it and see what happens.
Dave, its a good idea-only one 6 in Kernowland tho..... (in menspantz......

I will let you know......and Hogansghost- cheers fella, its not high on my wish list either, although a very high probability if i dont get this sorted, and it would be a biggy

Mooch, this is a long shot but have you double checked the wheels? I know you had them refurbed recently.

Is a TPMS sensor loose, a balance weight off, have they been damaged, did some tea leaf swap them with reps?

If you tried another set of vredestein on OEM wheels that would be interesting.

All remote/silly ideas but when I had my vredesteins fitted the fitter was useless and I could have done better myself with some spoons and fridgemagnets.
