warranty again (sorry!)

Post by pia1361 » Tue Jan 19, 2010 5:39 pm

hi

I purchased the car (an rs6+) from southampton audi one year ago so i have been deliberating what to do re extending the warranty. Southampton have told me that as of Jan 2010 warranty prices have gone up and also the charging structure has changed a bit, the result being that another yrs named component from Audi would come in at well over £2k.

They have offered me an AA Gold (sold via the dealer) as an alternative and confirmed it covers DRC etc and any repair costs are paid upfront i.e. I dont have to pay and then apply to be refunded. Cost for this is £1.7k for one year or £2.5k for two.

So, firstly is anyone else aware of and can confirm the audi price increase ?

Secondly, anyone here with experience with the AA Gold product ?

Thanks in advance

John

i have heard Audi have increased the price....to be honest if it is over £2k, that is a tipping point - I wouldnt bother

It was for me £1,732 at 29th Sept 09, and even at that price I was cringing.

For a couple of hundred quid difference I wouldnt bother with their AA Gold one

If you're gonna pay big buck, just get the Audi one

But honestly, if its over £2k, then just leave it

Put £2k in a bank, and only ever use independants and preferably MRC if you have a problem - hopefully the £2k will get you through the year

Though I would recommend buying the Audi Roadside Assist, Im sure you can buy this in a 2 yr package

This is good as if you do have a problem you'll get an Audi tech out with the latest computer equipment who can diagnose the problem for you, they can also provide replacement cars etc

My warranty is due in a couple of months, Audi have quoted:

1. £2,004 for 12 months unlimited mileage cover

2. £1,732 for 12 months 15,000 mile option

No idea about the AA Gold cover, but i'd stick with the audi cover wherever possible.

£2k will get swallowed up in no time - alternators, ICs, pumps etc will consume your warchest of £2k, not to mention a replacement box!

Get the warranty and enjoy the peace of mind. I will be renewing mine.

I'd normally agree, but £2k ... there's something subconcious about going over £2k !

Of course, to the OP, you can factor in added resale value / desirability of having the warranty...plus it will include Audi roadside assist

So, it all comes down to how much your willing to pay to insure yourself against big bills

I did it, and would prob do it again, but £2k would certainly make question it massively

This is interesting re: audi warranty charges. Mine is due in Sept and will ring both audi and a dealer tomorrow to see what they say.

I agree with Golffather re: swalling up cash, but also agree that if it tips over the £2k point, then it's a bit of a punch in the stomach.

is Audi still offering the "all component cover" for 5 - 6 year old RS6's ??

and what is the major difference between "named component" and "all component" ?

mine luckily has all component cover until march 2011, and I have already claimed on it fortuitously.

Interesting thread.

I have the AA Gold cover that the Audi dealer put on my car as extended after my named component warranty runs out.

I have claimed once so far for tyre pressure sensors which they authorised which Audi named wouldnt.

Only issue so far with it is that maximum labour rate they will pay is £40 per hour and you have to claim money back.

Other than that all seems fine

Sounds wrong if Audi sold it to you and yet will recharge at least £50 for every hour of labour spent??!

Audi Warranty, Named or All is KING.

After a quick once over at MRC a handful of items required attention.

Namely 1 x IC, MAFs, leaking cam cover housing, new gearbox/propshaft seal, front DRC valves.

On the face of it not too bad. So Audi confirm all the above under warranty at a cost to Audi of over £2k !!!

I rest my case.

A minor one but my indicators are playing up so Audi will be changing the hazard switch while I wait tomorrow. Another £25 saved ;)
