The basic issues are that this is verging on a supercar, that can carry a fridge, or 5 people + luggage on holiday, at 200mph.
It will have similar costs (well maybe not) to supercars at times. But they do move very rapidly. They have issues with some aspects of them such as suspension, g/bx etc. Cambelts and brake replacements can be expensive.
But if you're only considering buying one knowing that fuel consumption will be low, then you're mis-guided.
There is alot of info on this forum and can be founf using the search facility, but it always comes back to the same items:
Service History
Cambelts
Brakes
Suspension
Gearbox
And sometimes ICs and MAFs
Some costs have been highlighted above.
Service costs at specialists indies:
Minor service = c£200. Major service = c£400. If anything else needs changing then use the costs highlighted earlier in the thread.

Well, we all went through the stage you're at. We read through the forum/searched it, scared the crap out of ourselves, questioned our own sanity for still wanting one, weighed up all the pro's and cons, sought out advice from friends and relatives we respected and completely ignored all of that and went out and bought one!ecosnige wrote:Thx for the comments

Sure, there are some horror stories, go on any car forum and you'll find them, with the RS6 you are pretty high up in the food chain so there is the potential for some nasty bills if the worst happens but his should be obvious to you anyway.
You have to be careful about reading the negaitives on forums, it's natural for owners to come and post here when problems arise with their cars, but they don't tend to post at the end of each week that went by without any event. So you do get a bit of a distorted view, or can at least.
Buy a good example, ditch the DRC and look after your car and you should have a very reliable car. Running costs are above average for sure but it is a pretty special car.

LOL it is a bit much to take on board the bills do seem huge and im used to bills for cars.I can take a bit of banter too lol the answer to if i use quilted dam right i do thats why i want a rs6 lol.I want a fast wagon sick of the rangy big and bulky and no rewards, i am however put off by the bills to get a new car and be faced with a 2-3k bill is not a good thing lol.Anywy we shall see i go for the test run tomoro i will be taking my fighter pilot helmet and gloves and some pain killers for the bill i may face lol.I dunno if i can resist the audi tbh she made me feel all warm as u say and the kid inside me was saying buy her buy her look buttons power v8 turbos and the old git inside me was saying space for the doggie and a shopping trip too.I can see myself convinced this is the right choice lol head says no heart says u need this.
I'd defo suggest test driving afew cars before you decide on one. And if you can arrange it, get it checked out by either Grizz at Unit 20, or someone from MRC, depending on your location. They will interogate it, inspect it inside and out and then interogate it some more. Then they'll stick it on Vagcom, which will in turn tell you if its a good one or a bad one. They all feel very quick, but the ones that are poorly tend not to show any obvious symptoms, misleading the buyer and suprising him when it comes to its next inspection. The only way to tell is with experience at hand.

Go for it i,sold mine about 2 months ago and looking to get into another.
I spent 12k on mine tuning etc. But watching other peoples faces when you blow them away at the lights in an estate car was worth every penny.
1.Check DRC for any oil loss etc.
2.check intercoolers for oil misting
3.gearbox make sure it does not bang into gear or have any slip.
These items will cost a small furtune if f___ed, and tend to on most 6's

As long as you go in to this with your eyes open mate, and realise (you may be luck of course and have pain free motoring) that you will experience preciptious lows from time to time, but after them come the mountainous highs, like when you spank a porker and you have a fridge in the back!
We all love our cars, and want the best for them, and will ALWAYS try to help wherever we can- we do not want anyone to be seen orf or buy a dog (there are some out there) from dodgey bazzards.
When you drive it, don't be blinded by the torque the thing produces or the excelleration (mind you if yopu have had 600hp cossies...) listen for clunks and feel the car, if it is wallowy and feels like its going to fall over- think DRC, dont just drive it in FBMB mode (Fat Bastard Merchant Banker) stick it in flappster and test the box up and down, 1st 40ish 2nd 70ish 3rd 110ish and all should be smooth and not bangy or clanky, the box shouldn't ride or slip, then stick it FBMB mode and cruise fora while at 40 or 50 and check that it has got to 4th or 5th. If this is ok, the box should be OK.
They aint cheap, we have established that, if you go the tuning route- not that I have
..... you can spend FAAAAAZANDS, petrol is verging on silly again, £100 for a tank and expect a conservative 300 miles from it, or if you hoon it which you will for about £500 quids worth of squirt, about 150 miles.
Finally, If I upet you or offended you, I humbly appologise, I am Cornish and not very clever.

I went through similar concerns befiore I bought the RS4. Has different concerns to the RS6 but still has expensive bills to consider. Had a £1600 one this week, for example...
But...
I feckin love starting my car and hearing it run.
I feckin love driving my car.
I feckin love the glances from guys who like the look of it.
I feckin love giving it the beans and going past pretty much anything else on the road.
basically I feckin love the car and cant think about selling it, apart from maybe another/higher modded one (hopefully during this summer...)
They are worth it, but you have to appreciate they require special attention to be special.
Ferrari's cost more. Lambo's cost more. They also don't compare in my opinion. They maybe provide more drama initially, but you'll be called a tw4t for being in it, and you can't take it down the tip with almost a skip full of garden rubbish or an old wardrobe, can you ?
