I,M I Missing Something

Post by lushman » Fri Jan 15, 2010 3:17 pm

Folks I have my straight RS4 for sale and have priced it for a quick sale as need funds for a pending extension. I appreciate the weather hasn't helped or time of year, but im I missing something in my ad or what is wrong? Is it the mileage putting people off? Or is it Im in Belfast? Flights and ferries are very frequent.
This car is HPi clear straight and is pushing 432BHP based on MAF results and needs nothing done to it.
can someone advise me thanks in advance

I'd say it is location,it would put me off as i wouldn't want to travel that far incase i didn't like it,but having spoke to you i'm sure it is :D

Do you know anyone in england you could trust with it,i could be completely wrong but that would be my thought.
Like you say a good tidy car, nice spec, what else can it be

I would second the above comments made by Jules, had a look at your ad, states everything needed to know, well prices IMO, you had much interest?

I think the location will help you sift out the timewasters and chancers.Cant see anything wrong with addy really problem is these cars have stepped out of the current range of high performance cars and have dropped more into a specialist/cult car, someone has to want one to warrant quite a bit of cash on an oldish motor. The current climate isnt good and this time of year in the motor trade is fairly dead,i would just stick with it and wait

Thanks for the positive comments folks. I have also listed on a local site to see if I can get any interest here. Failing that I might take the car to my brothers in Edinburgh and see if he can sell it there for me!

Try not to reduce or sell it for really low price, unless you need the funds for other things

As mentioned, these cars only appeal to a minority, and the way things are, it makes it even more difficult to shift cars like these.

Stick in there, or as you've said Edinburgh maybe a better prospect. But even then for someone who is down south/London area, will still be a trek.

Have you tried advertising it in the Republic of Ireland?

Put an advert on vagdrivers.net you might get some interest

Thanks Ronan, The only problem there is road tax is very high in the republic for guzzlers and then there is import duty. I had thought about it

That makes no sense at all, If someone wants a certain car then road tax or vrt does not stop them. I know of 7 B5s here including my own and ive been asked to sell mine on a few occasions. You would have an advantage over Uk sellers were a buyer from Ireland would have to budget for a flight and ferry to get one over there.

Difficult innit?
It's a rare car, and will appeal only to those in the know.
Other people will be put off by how old the car is. Others will be put off because they fear somethign expensive going wrong.
Others believe spending that sort of cash on a 9-10yr old car as stupid.

None of these people have probably been in one.

As has been mentioned, our cars are in a minority but they are very special. You will sell your car to someone who is prepared to pay for it, but the timing has to be right for our sales. If you're in a rush at a time when there aren't many people looking (recession/fear etc) then you will lose alot of money if you have to sell. If you can afford to wait, you will sell at the original asking price...

Doesn't help much probably but I wouldn't beat yourself up. If in doubt speak with Nick Johnson. He might be interested as he's always selling RS4's...

Hi Stumpy, Thanks for the wisdom - very true
I spoke with Nick and we discussed at length but couldnt come to an agreeable price so I left it.
It will sell but I am under pressure from the wife to get this extension started. Catch 22!

Nicks offer will of been 4 figures not 5,hes sold an 01 low miler for mid teens so high mileage 00 car would be pitched pretty much were you have it now minus of course a good few £k profit, hes the only man who values these cars highly normal traders will insult not bid,my advice would be to market the car as well as possible in as many places as possible and be sensible if you get interest, cars at this end of the price range were selling fairly well mid last year but just after crimbo.................... If you get really pushed consider a p/x but beware you will get loads of offers from people offering overpriced dross that they cant sell,a natural trade up from someone with a nice b5 s4 may be a possible? It took me 4 months to get a fair price on my b5 but the higher the price gets the harder it gets.Good luck
