all the lights are off now

but for how long !!!

its meant to be warmer this week (i.e above 0 all week), so will look with interest if it comes back as it is definately linked to the temperature (or so I hope)

Mine went in this morning - i decided not to tell them the light had gone off on its own - let them figure it out. After all it went in for a diagnosis a few weeks ago and they picked up a few faults requiring new parts - will post a full breakdown in a few days when i get it back.

Got a 59 A4 avant 2l tdi - not bad - dont like the seats and just cant get used to the electronic parking brake!

So got my car back today after it being in for the last two days. Unfortunately for me the problem wasnt covered by my extended warranty. So cost me £70 for 1/2 hours labour (not sure why they kept the car for two days however?)

the invoice states: "checked EML light on, found fault for secondary air system followed test plan for TPI 2017086/2 confirmed fault with air flap sticking, lubricated and tested - carried out readiness codes all ok, customer to monitor.

This goes against the diagnosis check carried out a few weeks ago when i was told that part would need to be ordered and two days to fit. I was told today that a more experienced tech was put onto the job and managed to resolve without replacement parts.

The sticking i guess makes sense as the light had gone out on its own. reading posts from others perhaps this also explains intermittent EML light? One thing is for sure if it flickers it will be back in there in a shot a i will point blank refuse to pay for another 'lubrication'.

This is the 2nd issue in my 6 months of ownership both not being covered by the extended warranty. Very frustrating having paid out £1250. In a way I feel like i actually want something big to go wrong just to get my ££ worth! Will be a big decision to renew once it runs out.

Hope this goes somewhere to helping others - let me know how you all get on.

because it is a lubrication - hence a degradable item which isnt covered by the ext warranty. If the parts were replaced however i would be fine. Dam that 2nd technician!
My 1st claim last year wasnt covered either - the rubber tube to the exhaust had split thus losing the vacuum stopping the exhaust flaps opening when the S button was pressed. Another degradable part.

But surely the rubber tubing required a replacement part - hence a warranty claim?

Just renewed my warranty - thats me until May 2011.

Beware - the price for warranty is meant to go up in Jan 18th....not sure how much too.

The warranty was always at 17.5% VAT they never did drop it to 15%, so lets hope they don't use that as a excuse to put the price up.

Well so it seems it was a simple fix then Scottie, shame it took so long and a lot of drama to get to the bottom of it. I extended the warranty on my car, 3 months in and my Clutch and flywheel went due to split hose, all covered. I think its worth having just for piece of mind. Im in two minds about extending next year, I have modded my car so much now I doubt that I would be able to get away with it like I did last time lol

I think I will lube up my flaps ( hers and the cars lol) when I get the car next out, better to be safe than sorry i guess.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

I had a similar problem with the EPC light coming on then the check engine light, then the EPC light going out and then coming back on again. On both occasions the local dealer reset the lights but were unable to find a definitive code to order parts etc. One of the tecs mentioned low oil and poor fuel, reception wanted to rebook for a more thorough check and for me to monitor. The weeks before I had been only half filling the tank with standard fuel a couple of times. Since the last reset I have been putting 97 ron +, keeping an eye on the oil and have had no problems with either light. I had sensed they were unsure what the problem was but they knew it was not serious as they were willing to let me drive the car and rebooked me for 2 weeks time........

Yeh the rubber tube was replaced - but again a perishable item so no go - I kind of see their point but disappointed just the same.

If it's the 'power' flap in the base of the air box, it's a 10 minute job. Remove the air filter and peer down inside the housing.
