AFAIK towing with the 6 is not recommended. Probably OK for a gentle run with a light trailer, but suspect it would void any warranty etc on transmission components.

Do a search here - pretty sure there was a thread some time back on the subject, and that a standard A6 bar will fit.

from memory, towing is not recommended due to possible engine and transmission cooling problems.

I would say its still possible, providing your not concerned about warranty.

A swan neck style towbar should fit with a minimum of cutting to the rear bumper

The RS6 isn't homologated for a towbar. I've seen loads with them on though. I can't imagine for a minute why the RS6 wouldn't be able to tow.

Grizz, are these customers in for gearbox repairs? ;)

Asside from it being ill advised, dont you think that a tow bar would ruin the look of the 6? If you want to tow then i'd suggest a different car. Also, when it comes to selling it on later no-one is going to buy a 6 with a tow bar.

I had a 2000 Avant S6 which had a tow bar fitted. It tucked in quite nicely, you would never have know it was there. Now, I can't be sure it was factory fitted, but I can be sure that after I bought it from a "country gent" with lots of horses and horse boxes, It needed a new gearbox, 4 months later ( I never towed a thing)!! Food for thought.

S6 bar indeed - have one on mine. Removeable so nobody knows and as it's a proper OEM kit, fits and wires in perfectly. Audi say not to tow as they did not do the full TUV thing for an RS6 with bar, as in extreme cases, it would be possible to overheat the engine and box - but only if your drive it like a loon or insist on pulling 3 tonnes up big inclines at 100mph.

It's a perfect towcar in my opinion, although the most I've tugged is a 13' car trailer with my Renault Spider on it..... so not over heavy.
