New to the forum - 07 S4 B7 Quattro Cabriolet

Post by damocles03 » Thu Dec 17, 2009 6:34 pm

Hi all,
Just found this site and am delighted to find so many other RS/S owner/enthusiasts. I have owned an 07 B7 S4 Cabriolet for 11 months (got it at the bottom of the market as a total bargain I think) and its the best cab I have ever owned (had a 2.5Tdi before - a very good car too). Love the noise, the power and the security of quattro in the damp/snow etc.

Have renewed all discs and pads this year and given it a major service at the stealers. Have had one issue - a leaking steering rack fixed under warranty.

I havent modded the car much (ABT rear spoiler, RS4 pedals, RNS-E) but am seriously thinking about a Milltek - thing is I haven't heard/seen a Milltek fitted S4 to from an opinion. I'd love to hear more of that v8 noise! Mine is a 6sp manual so the drone problem some people report shouldn't be an issue. Any thoughts? Cheers, Charlie

What sort of Milltek are you thinking of getting. If it is the downpipes save your money and go for piggies or a custom downpipe. The Milltek dp's do nothingto improve performance. They maintain the precats which are restrictive. IMHO source a good company who make custom exhaust and save yourself ££££'s

Millteks use a 200cpi main cat in the pre-cats position, doing this allows them to use a smaller cat, but keep emissions within limits. I had the full non-res system and the difference was very noticable. More low down grunt, revved nicely and the sound is awesome. I considered a custom exhaust, but I opted for the milltek with all the R&D behind it.

Thanks guys

I think I will go for a full Milltek system, cats included. Its expensive, but they will have put a lot into R&D as xyber says so reliability etc shouldn't be a problem.

I want to post some pics but haven't quite mastered that yet! Tried an attachment but it didn't work....

Driving from Bournemouth to Cardiff and back over the weekend - almost hoping for snow for quattro fun!

The worthiness of their R&D is questionable. If their R&D is so good then why have they designed such a poor dp? The milltek dp's actually are worse for performance. The OEM pre cats are less restrictive that the milltek system 200 cell cats. With alll cars, epscially NA, it is important to get the breathing right. The milltek cats still provide a restriction, greater than the oem pre cats, thus reducing the engines ability to exhale. It has been seen on the B7 RS4 & C6 RS6 that the milltek dp's actually hamper performance.

IMHO all your paying for is the name, whilst at the same time spunking 1600 on Dp's with the pre cat just to swap one restriction for another. Save your money leave in the stock Dp's and put a cat back on the car. Or get a custom system removing the stock dp's.

The pre-cats are primarily used during cold start. Once the main cats are at their optimum operating temperature the pre cats play little part in reducing emissions. I have no pre-cats and sports main cats and have no problem passing emissions tests.

I completely agree with David - words cannot describe the sound of a non res MT system.

Having looked down the pipe and compared the two dp's, the OE ones looked considerably more restrictive to me. Just looking at it convinced me I'd made the right choice.

As I said previously the millteks swaps one restrictor for another. But we all make our own choice. More importantly we are entitled too.
