Help to a complete "do I don't I waster"

Post by Baggins » Tue Dec 15, 2009 3:02 pm

Hi Guys, firstly, apologies. I've been on here for ages questioning this that and the other and as yet, I've not bought. I'm currently in a Focus ST and although the girl has never let me down, I'm thinking about next year, taking the plunge.

I'd like, 4 doors, good looking confortable, sounds great, goes even better, so ever since I watched Clarkson race some stick insect up a mountain, I've wanted one.

So, guessing advice would be, buy the newest one you can, get some sort of warranty, get a letter from Audi regarding the DRC issue, be prepared for the odd Audi argument about brakes and pads but generally, go have some brilliant fun?

I guess what I'm asking, if I come unstuck on my most expensive purchase ever, there's not much this forum can't help me out with?

Cheers, Simon.

I have just come from a STi to the RS4 and its just the same running and insurance costs but for a far better car, granted if you bielieved all the threads on here you would not by a dust cover from Audi never mind a 30k car.

from joining here to buying i waited about 2 weeks so its been a short journey, but worth it as the car is fantastic in every way, comfortable, fast, solid, safe, quietish compared to my scooby and a good q car to most, blends in although mine is yellow s that last statements out,lol

The DRC issue should be common knowledge around dealers now. When I had the issue a couple of months back and the dealer refused to acknowledge there was a 5 year Audi warranty I wrote to Jeremy Hicks and got it sorted. They assured me they'd send round a 'reminder' e-mail to all dealers ASAP. I've since spoken to another dealer who said they'd had such an e-mail. So you shouldn't need 'the letter'.

take the plunge - you only live once.
Yes people have problems, but a lot more don't. Just remember that these are high performance cars and when they do go wrong, they will cost money.

I'm not so worried about the cost of stuff, life's been quite good recently, I'm just looking for a helping hand and that slight 'push' into ownership of the RS4 with the helping hand I'm not alone and we can help you sort it Simon feeling?

Are they really that good?

Simon.

your safest bet is to buy one with an Audi warranty, then your covered for whatever lemons come your way

thats what I did and now have peace of mind motoring

plenty to choose from, i would look at several, would certainly make sure it has audi warranty on it, and with that in mind , buy on condition alone, pricing in brakes/tyres etc if the car you fancy needs them.

bloody good cars for the money...nothing else comes close unless you up your budget ( c63 etc)

Nah, Mercs don't do it for me I'm afraid. Touched on 911's, Jag's, BMW's and they're really not for me.

RS4. Subtle, loaded, 4 doors, quick and more to the point, a great sounding V8. You really can't beat a V8 to get the hairs up can you?

Then there's the manual box, the sat nav, the leather, the sd card reader, the alloys, the good colour choices, list is endless in the tick box isn't it?

Hmm, next year, can see some money being spent. Bear with me, I'll get there in the end.

I went in the dealer to order a TT for the other-half, she got her car and I came out with an RS4. Not exactly a cheap weekends shopping but never looked back. Guess what I saying is If did a <beep> load of research i'd probably be where you are now, 2 years older and not driving an RS4, happy and enjoying my driving.

Long time dead, only live once, can't take it with you and all those phrases apply here. Given a poll, the ‘unhappy’ owners will be very few and far between.

hi Baggins, in the same boat as you (not the ST LOL!)

been hovering around here a while now, been dreaming of an RS for longer!

I'm a long time VW/Audi fan even owning a couple of 70's aircooled VW's, know my way around these cars. Forums are great but you only every hear of the bad stuff on them, but RS246.com is different, you DO hear lots of good of these cars and probably the reason I will be getting one!

a couple of general things about any car purchase:
-make sure you put enough down payment and make the payment schedule as short as possible so you never get 'upside down', ie, owe more than the cars worth
-the internet: nothing is hidden anymore: every issue is out there, not much hidden...so an informed decision is possible
-look at running costs: fuel and insurance, maintenance costs also

the beauty of the RS4 is that it is practical, decent mpg and yet a borderline super car, and definitely a super saloon...
great looks, great build quality, great technology...fantastic engine

only you know your financial situation: income, security, savings, future needs (kids, etc.)
but if all else meshes, the RS4 is a great choice...

Well I can scratch a few off the list right away. It'll be cash purchase, say up to about £35K, I'm single so no dependents, used to highish running costs so no shakes there, insurance shouldn't be a problem, I'm 41 next Feb with all the claims bonus I need, just go to find the right one now I guess.

Thanks for all the info Guys.

Simon.

Hello Baggins,

I've just moved from a Focus ST to a RS4, and so far loving every minute. Only had the focus 11 months but fancied a change and wanted to be back in an Audi.
