Audi car paint

I have been talking to my dealer about buying a Q5, I suggested that I would like the "Brilliant Black" to which I received a sharp intake of breath from the salesman. He said that the "plain" colour is not as hard or has as many coats of paint as the optional "pearl" paints

We are speccing the car very high so the difference in price between pearl or standard paint will not alter the salesmans commission.

Is he being helpful or talking

maybe he got someting in stock he wants rid of?
But i cant see the point in saying that as if you are "Bespoking" the car to your own requirements then he shouldnt really give a toss!
