The 96- onward cars had the lovely five cylinder engine (sounds just like an Audi 5 pot). 220bhp as standard, plus 12" discs and four-pot Brembos and a good few other improvements.

0-60 in 6 ish, 0-100 in 14.5 and 155ish top end. The 0-100 makes for raised eyebrows from many so-called supercar drivers (to 100, it out accelerates the standard Boxster, the Maserati 3200GT, NSX F-Matic, S8 (by 0.1 sec) S4 (by 0.2 sec) Jag XJR, Impreza, TT225, Mitsubishi 3000GT, S3 (by 0.9 sec), Noble M10, etc etc etc.

Cool - there's something totally addictive about the rumble of a 5 pot engine. Shame Audi stopped making them. Nice as our S3 is, the 4 pot 1.8 Turbo doesn't sound as good as the 5 pot in my beastie.

Must remember to listen out for the Coupe 5 pot.

i nearly bought a Fiat 20v Turbo a few years back, actually considered changing my (then) nearly new Vectra Gsi V6 not long after i bought it.

depreciation on the fiats eventually scared me off.

Isn't theory wonderful, especially for RS 6 owners!

However, I don't think the theory takes into account the power loss through the auto on the RS 6, so I'd say that real-world performance wouldn't be quite so hot from a standing start. Once it's gets it's lardy arse moving though, it's pretty awesome!

One of Audi's RS2 press cars was reported as doing 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds in the motoring press when tested in 1994. Oh and don't forget that the 0-30 mph time was reportedly faster than the Maclaren F1! [Obsessed or what - shall I go and get my anorak?]

I think it still actually is and remains unbeaten, IIRC.

Audi RS2 Avant Standing Quarter Mile = 13.6 @ 102MPH
0-60mph : 4.8secs
Top Speed : 163MPH (Limited)

Who's the daddy ?

Not bad for a car launched in 1993, huh ?

Riz

cough cough Riz, those S3 figures are for the S3 210 bhp model - the 225bhp model will be the same as the TT225bhp model surely.

And b4 anyone gets carried away, surely it is the way the car is launched/driven that affects these values.

A recent sat-nav based 0-60mph test carried out by myself resulted in a 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds (i'm remapped but that can't be accurate surely??)
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

Yup but even then the 210 model is ahead of the Fiat.....

However, its one of those cars whose looks you either love or hate

Expect no less, its a Chris Bangle design after all (isnt it)? One of his better ones though, I like them...

Just shows how accurate theory is then.

Fiat is booked as follows:

0-60 6.0
0-100 14.5
quarter 14.6

dunno about 60-100, but with about 220ft-lb torque (mines at 290), it is mighty quick through the gears.

As for Chris Bangle - another common misconception. He designed it when he worked for CentroStile (sp?) the Fiat inhouse design studio. Pininfarina designed the interior and the whole car was built at Pinifarina's factory (which probably explains the non-Fiat standard of build quality found on the Coops)

We should keep these two forums in touch - we're always up for a bit of a duel - might try and get a club day at the Pod or Elvington or somewhere where we can all be really silly without Plod intervention The 200SX board has expressed interest, the Alfa GTV boys sounded good, but have got cold feet and Scoobynet is too busy chasing maxxed up Novas and Corsas.

Still reckon an S4 / 20VT duel would make good viewing.

Anyone up for it?
