SDS voice recognition query

Post by Billy » Tue Nov 17, 2009 10:40 pm

Quick question guys.

Is it possible to transfer contacts from the phonebook to the directory so I can add the name tags?

Or do I have to manually add every name and number that I'll want to tag into the directory?

Thanks

In Audi's "wisdom" they made the phone book and directory completely separate, with no method to transfer contacts between them.

Oh well, I'll just do a few manually then.

Cheers PetrolDave

Searched for this but couldn't see a clear answer. If I'm running 2009-2 sat nav software on 660 With BT prep how difficult is it to get voice control for the rns-e sat nav functions to work please?
Read a few posts elsewhere but not clear what needs to be done and how tricky it would be to complete. Cheers.

Hi,

I had SDS Voice recognition added to the RNS-e in my B7 RS4 Avant about eighteen months ago. It involves sourcing a special piece of hardware (Canbus box?) made to order by a guy in the States. Having got this I then got craigyb who posts on this site particularly in the Electrical forum and is located in Manchester to fit this box and set the whole thing up. He did an excellent job at a very reasonable price.

If you look back through the old postings in the electrical forum you should come across the necessary details of how to organise this. If you can't find what you are looking for send me a pm and I will see if I can dig out further details from my old e-mails.

Regards

Rotavirus

There's two forms of voice recognition - but Audi, stupidly, call both SDS.

If you have a "normal" RNS-E with "normal" software then you don't have any voice recognition UNLESS you also have the phone kit - and the phone kit has voice activated dialling which uses a MFSW (NOT the RS4 wheel).

If you have a special version of the RNS-E OR have had the software SDS "hack" done then you have a full version of SDS that includes controlling the RNS- functions - as well as dialling if you have the phone kit.

It's ONLY when you have an SDS RNS-E with an RS4 wheel that you need the CANGate (referred to above, and no longer available since bjarne stopped making them).
