5.8:1 compression for the 600 hp mod?? Wowzers. I don't have too much tuning experience, but I know typically one can reduce the knocking tendancy of the engine enough to get 2 bar out 9:1 compression. I know my Saab runs 9.3:1 and 1 bar of boost pretty reliably. Combine it with water injection and I've seen fellows with older Saabs like the 9000 2.3L running 29 psi on a completely stock block and heads (2.3L, 9.3:1 compression, 372 wheel lb ft with just a chip, exhaust, intake, naturally aspirated manifold, intercooler and water injection). I don't want to get away from Audi's but I just wanted to point that out. There are lots of ways to get an engine to be less knock sensitive, not just lowering the compression. I'm just suprised they went that low is all!
Anyway, I can only drool over 600 hp for now so that's really awesome regardless! There is a guy from MapTun named Frederik who recently got 590 wheel hp out of his Saab 2.3L, and the Viggen hillclimb car has 750+, both were over 9:1 I think, but both were also running on race gas so it's not that impressive. I wish I had money.
