Hand Controls
Hi Holmax,
If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting your hand controls from? I could have supplied you with a set of portable hand controls to get a test drive....
Who did you speak to at JCT600 Audi? It would be interesting to know as I'm friends with someone very high up there and heads will roll... (it's not an isolated incident)
If you want a set of portables pm me or email me and I'll explain....

RE: Hand Controls
Hi cpl,
The guy I spoke to was called James in new car sales. He seemed decent enough but like I said, I was a serious punter, not some idiot who had just come in for a dream. I turned up in my one year old merc, so you would have thought he would have been falling over to get my custom! It really annoys me when people don't call you back, but that's today's world I guess. I'm looking forward to seeing his face when I take it in for a service and he realizes he just missed out on a tidy commission.
The hand controls came from Kewal mobility at Driffield. He's a really good guy and we have had plenty of dealings over the years.
I actually wrote an email to Audi uk, not about the hull branch, but Audi Lincoln. The wording was something like this:
Complaint about Lincoln Audi:
Hi, yesterday 29/10/09 I called the Lincoln Audi branch to enquire about two Audi rs6's that they had for sale. I explained that I was coming from hull and would not be able to get there until tomorrow around twelve. I asked if they were still for sale and would they be on site to view with a view to a test drive and possible purchase. The man I spoke to was called Adam. He assured me that they were there and it would be fine to come and have a look. Before I rang off he asked me for my details so that if anything had changed he could give me a call to save me a wasted journey.
I turned up at the time arranged and was met by a young man called Adam who explained that the Adam I had spoken to was the acting sales manager for the day and so he would deal with me instead.
I told him what I had come to see and he said he would go and get the cars. Five minutes later he returned with an apologetic look on his face and explained that one of the cars had been sold and was on an extended test drive, and the other was at their Boston branch being prepared to go to an in house dealer auction.
Boston is a further forty miles away from my home. As you can imagine I was not amused. He asked me if there was anything he could do to help me and I said yes, you can give me £20 to cover my fuel costs, and a further £5.70 for the humber bridge fare. He just gave me a blank look and didn't really know what to say. £25.70 could have bought me something nicer than disappointment!
But my main complaint is with the older Adam whom I had spoken to the day earlier. The younger Adam who I saw at the branch was really just caught up in the crossfire and is not to blame.
Are all your dealers like this? it certainly seems so. I also enquired about another rs6 at the stoke on trent Audi dealership. The man whom I spoke to on the phone (sorry, I can't remember his name) took my details (name, address, car I was looking to part exchange etc) and told me he would call back in fifteen minutes. Two days later I called him as I had received no response only to be told "sorry the car has already been sold". When I asked why he hadn't called to let me know, he said "sorry, I forgot". How do you forget in fifteen minutes?
The same seems to be true of Hull Audi.
Three weeks ago I went into the dealership to enquire about ordering a brand new rs6.
The man who saw to me (James) seemed decent enough. He took my details, looked at my car to give me a part exchange price and told me he would call me back once he had got a valuation on my car. I am still waiting for this call.
I would love to own an Audi, but your dealers are making it all but impossible!
As a result of this, my £75,000 budget will probably now go to Mercedes Benz or Bmw.
Regards,
xxx
This is the response I got by email on Monday:
Good afternoon Mr xxx
Thank you for you recent email.
We were very disappointed to hear of the incident regarding Lincoln Audi which prompted you to contact us and I can assure you the events in which you describe is not the way we would want our Audi Centres to treat any customer. I have taken the step to contact the Centre regarding this matter and I have requested an investigation into why this happened when you quite clearly gave them your contact details in case of any change.
A member of the Management Team from Lincoln Audi may wish to contact you directly regarding your complaint and I will also be provided with an update.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention so we can look to improve our customer service in the future.
Kind regards.

I got a phone call from the Audi manager at Lincoln later on in the day.
He apologised and said this is not how they normally work and was quite willing to bring the remaining rs6 over to me and offer a substantial discount on it by way of an apology.
I told him, sorry you are too late I have just bought one from bridgend Audi in Wales.
He said if there was anything he could do in the future, don't hesitate to call.
I said "I doubt it".
Ten minutes later he rang again and said he had given Adam a good dressing down and was sending me a cheque for £50 to cover my fuel costs and time wasted, and also a letter showing that I am entitled to a 15% discount if I choose to get my car serviced there when it is due. RESULT!
I guess he must have called bridgend and found that I had bought one and that I was a serious punter after all. I bet he was gutted
It just goes to show that it is sometimes worth complaining.
P.s
Andy at autotechnica.
I'll be popping in on Saturday to have a word about a milltek exhaust.

RE: Hand Controls
Almost forgot to mention,
I got the car today!
Wow, fantastic I love it. I'll just write a quick summary of how I think it compares to the e63 amg I used to own.
Obviously not a really detailed one yet, as I've only had the car a few hours.
Build quality seems to be a higher standard than the benz. The materials just feel like there are from the next league up somehow.
When I floored it, I was quite disappointed at first. It just didn't feel as vicious as the merc. Then I discovered sports mode. Bloody hell! It completely changed the character of the car. It turns it from a sedate, albeit, powerful sedate cruiser into something that feels like one of those manic jack russell dogs you see, half choking itself straining at the leash. It just wants to go.
Suspension wise,
What a difference the comfort and sport modes are. The merc was virtually impossible to tell which mode you was in. It was nearer the dynamic/comfort setting in the Audi. But the merc always felt like it had a bit of body flex similar to scuttle shake in a soft top. The Audi just feels stiff and taut.
Interior,
Just feels so much more up to date than the merc. Although I am finding the mmi a bit of a joke. It's just so fiddly and long winded. I thought the merc was bad but this is really taking the p**s.
I used to have a Lexus ls430 and both Audi and Mercedes could do to take a trip over to Japan to see how it should be done. It is light years ahead of either rival when it comes to an accessible easy to understand user interface.
It turns out I have the gen 2 mmi. My phone will not swap it's phone book details across which is true according to the Audi website. If it was gen 3, my phone would be fully compatible. It's going to take me weeks to get my contacts across with that stupid dial!
Sound,
Stereo excellent, engine not. I'm sorry but it just doesn't have that deep throaty burble that the e63 has. Nor does it have that screaming howl that an m5 has. It's just sort of in-between and boy, is it quiet, way to quiet. I'm getting a milltek at the first opportunity.
Although I do love the sound it makes in-between each gear change when you are giving it a bit of stick. It sounds like it is trying to suck up the tarmac.
Seats,
Excellent. Although I've just remembered why I preferably wanted a black interior rather than the silver/white I ended up with.
Pushing wheelchair with bare hands = mucky hands = mucky leather.
Steering,
Great at low speed, artificially heavy at anything over 20mph. It is maybe due to me having weak grip as a result of my paralysis. I may have to see if the weightening up can be disconnected.
The merc was very similar to this, but with perhaps less road feel, but lighter weighting if that makes any sense. It was still a bit too heavy for my tastes.
Brakes,
A bit numb, but do feel like they have some real stopping power. Much the same as the mercs really.
Overall though,
I love it!
I'll post some pictures as soon as I get some decent weather to do a photo session.
P.s
Does anyone agree about any of the points I made about the car (steering, mmi etc) or is it just me as usual?

Great report, thanks Holmax.
I cannot compare my RS6 to the Merc equivalent, however, I agree with everything you've said about the car. I have just taken the plunge and ordered my Milteks hoping to unleash a bit of the Lambo roar.
I smiled when you talked about the S option on the gear selector. I had an ABT A6 Avant remapped diesel before this one and it had so much immediate power even in D that I rarely found my hand reaching for the selector to move it to S.
I did the first 2k observing the hand book, more for my sad anorak mind than to protect the ten cylinders. This week I gave it the boot while in Sport mode and wow, like you, what a great surprise.
Hopefully the Millteks will arrive soon and I can't wait to hear them.
Have a good weekend,
James

Hey Holmax,
I like the "quiet" sound. I have a Lexus RX400h and a Prius and the RS6 is already too noisy. While I certainly like a good engine noise, I know not everybody else does
I had before the Lexus a BMW 535, the electronics was the worst ever. I find the Lexus very good, as you say, but still with a few glitches.
I have an RS6 with the latest generation MMI and it's the best software I've had so far. Even the voice recognition works. And the 3d nav is wonderful.
The only glitch is that it looses the media preference of "mix". But it's really a minor issue.
I've had it for 2 weeks and I'm completely in love. I spend my days waiting for an excuse to take the car out ... I'm getting ridiculous!!!
Cheers

I agree when in "childish" mode the sound is a tad too refined and therefore I too am tempted by an alternative exhaust ... however that has to wait as I have put myself on "punishment" for doing a little more than a acceptable speed limit possibly somewhere maybe perhaps possibly and so challenged myself with doing the posted recommended speed limit everywhere I drive for the month of November .. (the Boxster 986 S on the 329 yesterday did not count, but thats another story)
