Permanent connection of Road Angel type devices / 12V device

Post by jd_hants » Fri Oct 30, 2009 11:29 am

I have an RS6 with a Road Angel, powered from the lighter socket.

Does anyone know if/where I can permanently connect it to free up the lighter socket.

I have used one of those multi connectors from the lighter socket but its not very good and still cables hanging about everywhere.

The fuse box is on the R/H side behind the removable panel in the door shut and to get good access to the rear of it drop down the panel in the footwell below the steering wheel.

My Radar detector is wired straight into one of the fuses there (can't remember which one!) and the wire is fed out of sight up by the R/H windscreen pillar then tucks down the front of the dash/windscreen and pops out in the centre where it plugs into the detector.

If I'm not using the detector then I push the spare wiring back into the dash so only the plug is visible.

Much better than using the lighter sockets !

Did you just push the bare wires into the holder with the fuse then???

I wondered whether there is an auxilliary fuse or something that exists just for this purpose?

I used a Scotchlok connector to tap onto the output side of an ignition switched fuse - can't remember which one, I did it over 3 years ago when I got my RS4 and it's been working fine since then.

Pretty much the same as Dave said !

There's a group of ring terminals (on the 6 anyway) next to the fuse box and I earthed the negative side with them.
